USB cable to connect Droid

Is there a way to use the USB cable that came with my DROID RAZR to play music in the car? When I plug it in it doesn't do anything. It works with an auxiliary cable but nothing else. I have a 2011 Max SV with monitor package(no navigation).

I don't think the maximas support androids through USB, Ipod it does flawlessly, but with the droids there is some problem for some reason. I just Bluetooth stream all the music of my phone, surprisingly extremely great quality... I never use the aux....

You have an AUX port on your headunit with the monitor package? You have the USB (Apple) port and the Red/White/Yellow AV ports too correct? Or is that the AUX port you are talking about?

i think it depends on the phone. my droid incredible had an A/V out cable that plugged into it's USB port but had white/red/yellow plugs on it. i think it just depends on the capabilities of the phone if it can support external audio/video plugged into it or not

What he wants is to use his droid and plug into the USB port to play music from his phone. Unfortunately that is something only iPods, and iPhones can do. I've tried many times, but is isn't possible. U can try to connect via Bluetooth and stream audio, but beyond that, you would have to use the blackberry audio gateway. This is one of the main reasons I hate a lot of the stereos out right now.

It would also depend on how your android phone handles the external storage. MTP or plain ole USB sharing.

That's one of the few things I don't like about android, manu's follow different specifications on how they handle things.

Might as well a few weeks. There is a new version supposed to be coming out mid-June that is smaller and has NFC built in to it. I have tried looking for one of the older BB Gateways and it has been a challenge. I am not paying $80+ for this thing when the new one will only be like $40-50.

I picked 5 of them up off of newegg.com over a year ago for $25 each before they completely fell off the market! I couldn't resist! haha. I only used 1 in my girl's Lexus IS. haha. never know when I will need them. They go for almost $60 bucks now if you can find them. but you're right, it's a nice looking piece for sure.

Here is an article on the new version. Looks like they made it a little smaller! They are saying shipping June 2012 for $49.99

http://crackberry.com/rim-announces-...-music-gateway

The gold rush is almost over, haha

EDIT: Just to make sure...you guys are making 2 separate BT connections right? From phone to gateway, and then the gateway with the car? Or is it just phone to gateway and then using the RCA cables in the center console?

Found Ghostz old thread about using it with his tablet..."Xoom playing a music video, streaming bluetooth audio to my Blackberry Stereo Gateway that's connected to the RCA inputs."

For reference...
http://forums.maxima.org/7th-generat...rola-xoom.html

I would say this would be a similar product, but it is the size on a damn AppleTV! A bit too large to be in my center armrest personally....http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_i=507846

haha, I still like the look of the older one. Mine looks a bit more higher end when visible rather than just black plastic. and it looks bigger actually. It doesn't look like it does more than the ones I have.

The biggest plus for the newer version is that it has NFC built in for easier pairing. It won't matter for most people unless you have a galaxy nexus, tmobile galaxy s 2, or other phones with built in NFC.

best part is (for us 09's) is that your phone can still pair with the car for phone calls at the same time. i was really impressed when i got that little thing, its worked great for over a year and any issues ive had a simple unplug-plug back in fixed it

Quick quetsion...with the BB gateway connecting to the RCA inputs in the glove box....those inputs work while in motion, or do you have to do the bypass on them?

The audio always works, the video (if you want that) will need to be bypassed

Hey Bud. Was thinking the same thing yesterday. Went to Radio Shack and got a Y-adapter to RCA red/white 6 ft' wire. ($6.00) Plug into Droid or any similar device where headphones normally go and into the red/white jacks in your armrest. Pandora, I Heart Radio, everything works perfectly. At the same time, use USB to phone connection to keep that bad boy juiced up. Slip into little net designed to hold phones/iPods and you're good!!

Now the next step is to figure how to get my google maps navigation from my Droid onto that screen! Guess that would require somehow bypassing the 'put car in park and apply parking break" thing..

Got the car 1 yr old, SV Premium with everything except Tech Package. Damn you guy who ordered the car new!!!
