Used 7th Gen - what to look for?
I apologize if this is a thread that occurrs quite frequently, but I did a search and didn't really find anything. But I'm looking at picking up an '09 - '11 Maxima, and was wondering what to look for, if anything.
We had an '07, and I knew about the timing chain tensioners, and the transmission issues with the resulting warranty extension - I'm assuming those issues are resolved with the 7th Gens? I haven't found anything on the web noting any frequent or high-dollar problems people are having.
What about gas mileage and the mpg computer - I know the 6th Gens were notorious for not returning listed mpg (we didn't get more than 24 on the highway going real easy), and the computer never returned the calculated fuel economy, either.
I found a 2011 3.5S listed for $19,500, 31k miles, was a former 1-owner fleet vehicle according to Carfax, just don't know if it was a sales guy's car, or a Hertz rental. Think I should stay away from this one? I just keep thinking in the back of my mind if it was a rental, it was thrashed.
Thanks for any and all help!

2009 - 2010 Maxima's Nissan extended the CVT warranty to 10 yr / 120,000 miles on 2011 and after its just the normal warranty..
Get a 09 to take advantage of the extended cvt warranty, and get one under 36k miles so u can be within the bumper to bumper factory warranty. Your will usually find all the problems of the car within a year...and all the common problems are already known so u can have the dealer fix em all under tue bumper to bumper warranty.

I have an 09..Idk about this whole warranty thing..they make you pay a ton of money thinking your "okay." In reality, its just a waste of money IMO. However, mine is running smoothly and I saved 2500 from the warranty they try to con into buying.
Get an SV..You won't regret it whatsoever. Most people I know who have the S always say, "man I should have gotten an SV."
Listen for engine ticking noises, how smooth the brakes are to see if it was beaten or not, I would check the radio and the sound quality, because I have been noticing Nissan doesn't do a great job in that department, make sure the auto (everythings) work, check battery (easy fix though), and rims and tires make sure there are no punctures, etc.

I was thinking of the Factory Warranty I also bought the extended warranty bumper to bumper I got mine for only $900 bc I turned down the first offer which was $2,000
if you like the options/luxuries go with a sport/tech or premium cause i see a lot of people on here who go with more base models and wish they had the other options (or try to mod them on later finding out some are expensive or not possible)
Guess they were trying to play me..as always..except they got played because I walked out lol and they chased after me
Thanks for all the help and tips. I've been trying to stay right around the $20k mark, which is why I was seeing all the "S" models. I might just wait a bit and do some more searching, see if an "SV" shows up. More than likely, I won't be doing any modding to the car, it'll stay stock.
The bad thing is that whatever I get, I'll be putting 20-24k miles a year on it. So maybe going for an "SV" just might make sense on resale if I sell it in 4-5 years.
Extended warranties - those who have them, what are the terms (mileage, age, etc). Thanks!!
