Cigarette Lighter Removal

Hey everyone so one way or another a nickel fell into my cigarette lighter(the one right behind the cup holders, not the armrest) and somehow it is wedged under the lip at the bottom of the of the cigarette lighter. I tried everything to get it out. I tried using tweezers, a angled pick, tiny flat head, etc. Nothing is working so i want to try to take the whole assembly out, but am unsure how to do it. Does anybody know how? Thanks

Try using a small pointed knife to flip it on is side, and out with it. I had a penny fall in mine a month ago. I got it out, but not before lowing the 20amp fuse that goes with it.

use a wooden stick and put a chewed bubble gum, rice, or something sticky... maybe it would get it out...

Or use a piece of tape, sticky side out, wrapped around a pen or pencil.

I tried everything the nickel seems to be wider then the cigarette lighter so it's really stuck . I just need to figure out how to take the assembly out.

Can't be wider if it dropped in. Maybe a pencil, put a drop of superglue on the eraser and stick it to the coin. Let it dry and it'll give you a bit more leverage?

i tried the superglue trick too there is a lip at the bottom of the lighter and it is under the lip so when i try to pull one side up the other side just hits the lip...

You might have to dismantle the center console to get the lighter socket out. Try and check out the repair manual on the nicoclub website.

I know you asked for assembly instructions but...Sharpie magic marker or thick wood dowel and some 3m double sided tape.

If that fails you can always go to the dealer and explain why you have a nickel, a pencil, bubble gum, 3m tape, wood dowel, and a screw driver jammed into your cigarette lighter. They may take pity on you.

Sorry about the joke

let it be... you have another one right in the arm rest.. you shouldnt take it apart just keep trying to take it out with different methods.. maybe buy a simple tool.. melt the nickle a little? taking the whole thing apart is overkill too much time.. but hey i dont know what your times worth.

Did it work? Easy to remove and replace?

Yes, I know this thread is from a few years ago, but I too recently had this problem and found an easy way to remove the coin.

I used a pair of hose pliers I had previouslybought cheap at harbor freight, to grip the sides of the socket. I moved it from side to side and then the socket popped out of the console. There was then small opening on the bottom of the socket where I was able to insert a flathead screwdriver to tilt the lodged coin upward. I then used a pair of needlenose pliers to pull the coin out.

Now I have a working socket

I had some pennies stuck in mine. One time I was vacuuming my Maxima at a local car wash and stuck the hose in that compartment. The vacuum was strong enough to suck the coins right out of the cigarette lighter.

Now I make sure I keep that cap closed when I'm not using it.
