2012 HID Install

Can anyone point me to a good DIY thread on HID install for the 2009 and up Max? I have a 2012 and had 2011. On my 11' I went through the fender wells and it was a real *****. Wondering if there is any other way besides that way or removing the bumper? Thanks in advance.

Here's where I placed my ballast. Easy access and when something blows, easy replacement. I circled the area where I placed it. I used to have it behind the bumper until I realized this route will be a pain in the future.

Jbling -

Thanks for the image. That's a good idea for sure. Actually attempted that my first time but failed because wasn't enough slack from the ballasts. Did you still have to remove wheels and fender walls to change bulbs or?

Very very very heavy duty 3M tape is holding both of my ballast and no I don't have to remove wheels to change the bulbs since I did this. I just turn my tires left or right, remove one clip each side, slightly bend the plastic, slip my hands inside, then twist and pull the bulb towards me. Removing the wheels is too much work for me. I go the easy way in . That's how I roll If your lowered on Eibach springs, it's going to be kind of tight. On stock springs it's easy and you have room to work and play around. If your slammed, then it's going to be a challenge.

Someone told me to do this last install on my 11. I ended up removing the wheels, fender walls and it was still a pain. Mostly because I mounted the ballasts 100% in the ***** lol. They held up until I got rid of the car though but I won't do it again. Easy squeezy burns when you peezy. Gonna try it this way next time and see though.
Car is not lowered (yet). Did mount the ballasts then just drop the cables down in the fenders?

Mounted the ballast then ran the two wires through the square hole then connected the wires. Make sure the 3M is heavy duty and heat resistant since our engine bay loves to generate heat.

I love your grille, front lips and LED strip lights on your bumper. Where did you get them? Did you install them yourself? If you did, would you mind sharing how you did that? They look awesome!

Thanks man. The grill I did myself. There's a DIY here I posted. Check it out. The front lip you can get from Stillen.com or buy from another 7th gen owner whose parting out their Max like I did. The leds you can get from www.ijdmtoy.com. I got the slim design but it wasn't bright enough for me so I modified it by buying Vled individual leds. I originally wanted Vled DRLs like Ghozt but I didn't feel like modifying the plastic anymore and got lazy. LOL it's brighter IMO and it's a 5K look.
