sunroof problems..

I really hope this wasn't asked.. But my sunroof is constantly having problems closing.. It's so random with when it works and when it's stuck closing then half way stop and open back up.. Took it to the dealer they "reset" it but three weeks later back to acting up..

I'll spare you the horror stories and basically say... I have a 2010 premium which I bought new... After 6 trips over 14 months JUST for sunroof repairs and being without my car for close to 6 total weeks JUST in sunroof repairs... My sunroof still acts all screwy occasionally.... If I could, I never would have taken it in.

I think the 'reset' function is to make it operate correctly after the battery has been disconnected. I don't think the 'reset' will solve your problem.

It sounds as if the closing roof is not matching up properly with the space in which it goes when closing, so is being blocked by something, and the safety system designed to prevent a child from being decapitated (or an adult's arm from being crushed) takes over and reverses the action.

I use my double-paneled roof quite frequently in fall and spring, but those seasons usually do not last long where I live south of Atlanta, so I operate it less than 100 times each year. I have been sort of concerned from day one about the complexity of this double-panel roof, and feel lucky I have had no problems.

You have my sympathy, as this is the sort of problem most dealers seem to be incapable of fixing.

^ I also use mine sparingly but when I do it's mainly to open shade panels with keeping the glass closed. I would have prefered the added weight savings of no sunroof but obviously Nissan doesn't option the car this way.

I assume you're talking about the dual pane roof in the Premium SV. I have the standard moon roof with the Sport SV.

We'll see if the next generation Premium gets the dual pane roof or not. It may depend on customer feedback.

Hyundai offers a similar roof option and I am sure others do as well. Give it time to mature perhaps...the moonroof in my Sport SV has probably 30 years of evolutionary developments along the way. The dual pane does not have this much history, so it's definately something new...kinda like a first generation CVT transmission.

The dual-panel roof is a POS. Wish I got the sport model.

Yeah I don't know what the problem is the battery has been strong and replaced once but even then when I did all my windows everything worked fine.. Is just once the stars align and the moon is full it's acting up.. Mine is the S with only one sunroof.. I just find this odd that it chooses when to work and not work.. But all your responses are helpful..

Yes I have the premium with dual panel and haven't had any real issues using it as little as I do. Like the sport model it's still only opening the one forward glass panel. The difference is it's opening a rear cover to expose an extra glass roof panel. Shouldn't have all these issues IMOP.

I have a 2012 with the dual panel and I opened it for awhile when I got home I closed it. When I got out of the car there was a piece of plastic sticking out about 6 inches where the big rubber seal is. The plastic if from where the rubber boot is held to the moon roof. It slides in a channel on top of the boot. Going to the dealer today to get if fixed or order a part.

I had a similar issue as you. I have an 09 with just the 1 sun roof. Sometimes it would work fine and then all of a sudden it would act up like how you described. I took it to the stealership and they fixed it. They said the wind deflector that comes up when the moon roof is open would come up to high. The moon roof thought there was something preventing it from closing. They were able to readjust the wind deflector down a little bit. My sun roof has been working fine ever since.

to finish on my story of the dual panel, I hooked up the plastic piece and drove to the dealership and showed them what part it was an they said they looked at it and it was okay. well I noticed that when you close it kind of shimmys an jerks back an forth. so I ask them about that and they say it does the same on there cars at the lot. I don't remember it doing that before, so who knows. Also I noticed today that that the big seal running door to door has a gap in it. Like it has shrunk or something I hope it does not leak. We have not had rain for a while. It don't seem to leak when I wash it. Well when I take it back down for tire rotation and oil change I'm going to open an close the glass a few times to see if it screws up. I still really like this car and just hope that the miner problems I have will line out.

Sounds like they are trying to avoid a repair for whatever reason. Try a different dealer.
