Aftermarket stereo wih Bluetooth can eliminate the aux, OR there may be special angled plugs for the aux cable.
If we could find a way to mount the tablet to replace the amber screen, with access to remove the tablet. Let me know how it goes. Good luck with the install.

How are you liking the DEH-9400? I have the 80PRS in mine but haven't been able to unlock its full potential as of yet (don't have it connected to an amp) but it makes a huge difference. Door speakers were upgraded as well.
Never thought about fiber-glassing the cubby port or completely disassembling the HVAC screen - I might have to take a leaf out of your book and do the same! Great work so far!
This is all great stuff.....you all are giving me some great ideas. I just bought an S, and of course does not have anything in it. Looks like I can pick up a tablet and run anything from GPS to backup camera through that....and at a fraction of the cost.
Just wanted to share one of my favorite projects. Replaced the ugly amber screen with Google Nexus 7 with Android 4.1, replaced stock radio with Pioneer AVH-X2500BT 6.1" Touch DVD/USB/MP3 Car Player and relocated temperature control screen to glove box. Here is the link to the video.

I recently changed the setup with a Galaxy Tab 3 and a Pioneer AVH-X7500 BT single din flip screen stereo and moved the HVAC screen underneath the stereo.

For the price it's a great stereo. You can get them on ebay for around $80-100. All I really use it for is bluetooth streaming and phone calls. The functionality on it is pretty complicated but you get used to it. Doesn't hurt to have 3 sets of 4V outputs. Really helps the Bose stock system. I'm waiting until it get's nice out in order to do my substage.
Nice! I used the DEH-8400bh, ahem "rented" from a store for a week for about $140, and was pretty impressed with the sound quality. I could turn up the volume and there was almost no distortion in the highs and mids. The call quality was just so so, but I suspect it's because my phone has some gremlins in it. Mixtrax was a hit or miss. I guess I just have too many songs on USB that are of different genres. They didn't blend well. Generally it was a pointless feature. Either way, the DEH line is pretty friggin' amazing.
I also got a Android tablet setup in my car, (96 Nissan Maxima) but I'm looking to upgrade it to something that will allow Bluetooth, and some more feat like 4g an all that, looks good man, Plus why get the huge dvd players when you can have like 20 - 50 movies on a single sd card, and you can also download music players, and get more pre amp settings then you would with a stock, it's cheaper, and better.
P.S a **** load of music too all on the same sd card
I just recently got a 7th Gen....been had my 3rd gen forever and got the mod itch again...good job on the mod but I have a question about the install as I am a car audio installer when I am not Air Forcing....First, how big is the A/C Display and could you possibly cut it into the panel that sits below the radio instead of putting it in the glove box? You could have kept the Double Din and not went to a flip out...those are a last resort for old trucks Box, Donk, and Bubble Chevys!!!! lol....if ya Gangsta!
What kind of extension cord did you use? One like this one or something different? I'm just trying to get an idea of what I need before I open it up. Did you use a certain type of bracket to mount the Nexus tablet?
the nexus fits perfect in the opening so i spot glued with hot glue and then kept foam behind it as a cushion to hold even better
yes, that will work fine, i cut the connector from the end of the ac harness leaving about 5 inches or so of wire on the end, cut up the extension for cables, i believe i cut and spliced 6 small runs off that extension cord and then attached to existing cabling and harness so it extended the connector a few feet
Thanks a lot. That really helps. One last question: For your Nexus settings, how are you keeping it on without having to hit the power button on the side? I'm sure its always plugged into the usb port, but will it come on automatically when the car starts because the side power button on the nexus (at least on mine) won't be seen or available once the dash is back together.
So I figured out what it was. A blown 10 fuse called "elec parts (ign)" 2nd from the upper right in the driver's fuse box. A real pain in the a$$. I still want to put the nexus but i need to get the wiring down.
I know little about the new Maxima, but be careful with the wiring from the radio harness. If the radio power wire touches the chassis while the car is on, you will blow a fuse. Sounds like a common sense thing, but if you're working on tablet stuff, it's easy to do.
These setups look really good though. Cool to see people getting around the new bland interfaces. Also, I don't know much about other tablets, but the Nexus 7 has kernel support for powering on and off with the car and setups to go run with amplifiers and such. One thing I did notice that I really dislike about having a car tablet setup is the heat is a huge enemy for these tablets. If you car sits off in the heat, even if it's off, the heat will help eat the battery very quickly. The charging capabilities cars have is good enough to keep it going, but if it's hot and is a permanent install, it'll pretty much die every time you go out.
I was able to get the Nexus pad installed. I used 1ft of 5 wire thermostat wire from Home Depot to splice and extend the temp. controls from the original position to the lower position of below the head unit.
I used some make-shift brackets from elbow joints (also from Home Depot) that I bent with pliers and a hammer to hold the Nexus in place. I think I might open it back up and glue it because the screen is a little off.
The tough part is mounting the temp controls below the head unit. The temp control is a little bulky, and there's not enough space to sit the temp control back flush with the interior. Everything works as it is, but I'm not satisfied with the finished product. I think I will be tweaking things in the coming weeks until I'm where I want to be.
Pay attention Nissan. Put an android tablet in the next Maxima. To think that they charge $1000+ just for nav screen and this guy got Nav Google Maps Web Cool UI 32GB+ Jukebox Movies2Go Phone Pandora Weather Time & Social Media Widgets and so much more for $250. Very neat setup.....on the flip side the only thing Google tablets is missing is A/V input and FM support. Pay attention Google.
What makes you think they still won't charge you $1000+ if they used a cheap but functional tablet in a car???
I changed a few things on the temp. control for the A/C. I just added some weathersealing from Home Depot to go around the control. Everything works fine.
I also used a little hot glue on the clamps to reinforce them to the back of the Nexus pad, but I honestly don't think it's necessary.

This is awesome; better than mine. I especially like how flush the thermostat is to the interior. I had a bear of a time getting mine to fit back in there without some modification.

What is the piece below the radio thst was dremeled out called? Im looking for a extra incase i want to put it back factory one day
When I replaced the factory radio I went with a pioneer 7 inch Apple play. I then moved the thermostat screen below that. And where that amber screen use to be I put a backup camera so it only comes on when reversing
