key light in gauge cluster issue

ive had my maxima 2 months and have replaced the intelligent key battery 3 times.... the key has the infinity emblem on it so im sure it isn't the original key that came with car... after replacing battery in abou 2 weeks the key light with the charge indicater bar comes on at almost on e part vs full.... why why is this happening?? I don't put intelligent key in dash slot when driving, it usually is in pocket... could this key be faulty as it has infinity emblem on vs Nissan logo? maybe it wasn't programmed correctly???? when I insert it into the key port on dash the light goes out, but returns on next start up..... hmmmmm I searched and searched,is it time to take to dealer and get a new intelligent key?

Did the car only come with one Key ? Those keys are pretty pricey. I'm sure others here will know more but maybe the Infiniti key will work in a Maxima but not correctly so it's causing the battery to drain. What year is the car ? Did you buy it from a dealer ?

I've seen those keys go for pretty cheap on Ebay. I ASSume after you get one you will have to go to the dealer and have them program it and cut it to match. No clue how much that costs.

As to your issue. I've never heard of that before. Odd issue.

When I bought my car they tried to sell me some lost key warranty saying the Fob and key were very expensive ( forget how much) so is the dealer programming what costs the $$ or was it total BS on the dealers part ?

Have you tried a brand name (Duracell or Energizer) battery in the thing? I've heard the other batteries just plain don't last. Maybe it's a stupid suggestion but worth a try.

When I bought my car used they only had one key fob. I told them I wanted two. They replied it would cost about $100. I said, looks like you're eating $100. They said ok.

This was well over $100. Closer to $500 if I had to guess. They were trying to sell me an insurance policy on the key.

While the key an Fob may be $100 I believe the dealer has to program it, if so I'm guessing it's a few bucks

If this process is accurate I'd give it a shot from one of the keys I linked earlier. If it works all you have to do is have the key cut and you can do this part yourself. Screw paying them for 60 seconds of work.

EDIT: SCRATCH THAT!!!! I guess that is for the older key FOBs. Info in regards to newer ones below.

I'm going to have to go look and see if I can find what the dealer tried to sell me as far as if I ever lost the intelligent Key

I knew I wasn't going to buy it so I wasn't really listening but if the dealer is pushing it yoo know it's several hundred bucks

From what I have read only the dealer or a locksmith with the right equipment can program it. You know if you bring in your own key ( saying the dealer will even program it) and it doesn't work the dealer is going to blame your key when it could be other faulty parts within the system and charge you anyway

Edit............The dealer wanted $235 for a 5 year replacement key if it was stolen , lost or damaged

All I bought was the 5 year Tire/wheel warranty as I have bent several 17 inch Infiniti wheels in Minnesota so $275 to have piece of mind with my 18 inch tires/wheels for 5 years is well worth it IMO

After four years with the same batteries in my fobs, I began getting that 'low bat' thingie. I replaced the batterys in both fobs, but within a few weeks, the same 'low bat' came back.

After going through several sets of 'name' batteries with little success, I took my car to the dealer and talked with the tech there that has given me very good service for almost two decades. He ran some tests and said one of the three internal antennas (that determine if your key is inside or outside the car, or if it is within a few feet of one of the doors or the trunk, etc, etc), and found one of those antennas had gone bad. He replaced that antenna, and the problem disappeared.

In fact, I had kept my OEM batteries so as to be sure of the battery replacement number, so put them back in the fobs, and so am now still on my OEM batteruies in a Maxima built in Sept of 2008.
