Noise From Front Wheels

Ever since the weather has gotten a lot cooler, my front wheels have been making a scraping sound. This only happens first thing in the morning or when I've parked the car for more than 8 hours outside. It will have this noise during the first 2 or 3 minutes of driving and it will go away after braking a few times.

I went to the dealership and they said this is normal. Their explanation is when the weather gets cooler, the rotors have a thin layer of rust on it. After braking a few times, the rust goes away and the noise will be gone.

Does this happen to your Maximas? I find this hard to believe because I've owned many different cars before my Maxima, and not one of them had done this.

I think it is normal. My car is parked in the garage but my parents car is always parked outside. And during wet days, there will be a squeaking sound coming from the brakes at first. It goes away after a few braking periods. Since it is getting colder, there is probably more condensation on your brakes and therefore, they are wet.

What I'm referring to is a scraping noise from the wheel when my car is in motion. It'll go away after braking a few times.

I've heard this before on my 6th Gen and it was never anything to get worried about.

Perfectly normal. Rotors can and will develop rust overnight. My driveway is a long hill and dragging the brakes while driving down the hill clears the rust off every morning.

This. Light rust can develop overnight.

Above explanation explains this, its NOT your wheels but your brakes, hence, the sound goes away after the light rust and dust is "swiped" off the rotor surface from applying the brakes.

I went ahead and had the dealer look at the noise issue. The tech suggested it was the brakes. The tech performed a brake service and the noise is gone! They do charge an arm and a leg for such a simple service. I was dinged $120 before taxes.
