Mod's for More Leg Room ???

Hi All -

I own a 2012 Maxima GLE and have found the legroom to be just a bit cramped. I'm 6'1" with long legs. I thought I was crazy when I bought the car since this was my third one -- now 18 months or so into owning it, my leg is falling asleep and always aching. I was thinking of moving the rails back (being careful of hole placement through the rear carpet).

Has anyone done mod's to gain more legroom or simply dump the car?

Any idea's helpful. I know some of you are as or taller than I am and "never had this problem". I really do. I don't have the problem in my wife's VW, my old maxima (2000) or a 2004 Ponitac GP.

I've tried adjusting the seat (power) all kinds of ways with at best minimal improvement. Well I do and I'm at my witt's end on this car. It's no fun to be limping.

Thanks for your help.

George

You have got to be kidding me. I'm 6'4" with a 36" inseam and this has to be one of the roomiest driving cars there is. The backseat leg room is another story. When my dad (who is also 6'4") and I went to test drive all cars, he went back to a new Maxima partially because of the leg room for the driver. Go test drive some german and other Japanese cars in this price range and just see how much leg room the 7th generations have. My 2002 was a completely different story. My GF's VW is the worst.

And the 2012 doesn't have a GLE version. You either have an S or and SV.

I'm 6' 1" and basically keep the seat all the way back. That is just right for me. Don't know if I would be comfortable if I was taller.

Perhaps it's not legroom that is the issue for the OP maybe it's the seat that is uncomfortable. So far I have no issues with the comfort of the seat but some people have posted that they find the seat uncomfortable.

Moving the seat mounting holes back is probably not an option. Maybe you could gain an inch or two but it would probably not be worth it.

You can't just redrill holes in the floor. The holes are reinforced so the seat doesn't come out of the car with you in it in an accident.

I'm 6'3 and have plenty of room in this car so I don't know bud.

UPDATE: I took the gas pedal assy off. If you look at it, it's a giant "L". I bought another one off of eBay and cut off the "L" and welded / ground down the excess / painted . installed back. Picked up 3 - 4 inches in leg room.

Can't tell (but you can feel) the difference!

What is a GLE trim? I thought 7th Gens are only S and SV? Are you talking about a 2002?

GLE trim was one that was offered on the 5th gen models. I had a 2001 and it was really nice.

I'm 6-2 and didn't have any problem with leg room with that car or my 09 SV.
Edit - I just looked up the leg room specs on both and the GLE had 1 more inch of leg room.

Thanks Richard. I'm glad you didn't feel you had an issue with leg room. I do and have found a (unorthodox) solution. Possibly my legs are just longer than yours or some goofy thing like that.

Sorry for the confusion, the issue is with my 2012 Max SV. We have had 2 others and have NOT had the same issue. We generally drove them into the ground.
