Cool Morimoto XB Strips

Does anyone have these? If so, what's the width from top to bottom on them? Thinking of mounting (sticking them) to my already mounted brake duct DRLs that are giving me fits and am hoping that these give a wide enough light to fill that slot:

They are 70mm wide.

You'll also need to know that these weren't designed to be waterproof, so you'll need something to cover them up. Also the LEDs are mounted on a slightly bendable sheet of metal and they do get quite warm when running, so finding an adhesive that could hold with the heat generated by the LEDs and the sun could be interesting. They are best used for applications inside a headlight or interior of the car.

EDIT: Plus a pic showing the brightness compared to my halos, they're about the same, the strips are just angled and have nothing to reflect off of like the halos. Overall pretty visible in direct sunlight, but we're not talking Audi levels of brightness lol.

Got it! Thank you....

So would the 5LED DRL option be better in this case?

We're still talking about Morimoto right, specifically the X.DRL?

I was looking at the X.DRL, and looked up a couple of install pics on HiDplanet. I think they stick out like a sore thumb, especially with the magnified yellow diodes. You're still going to need a dimmer module of some sort, but they are ridiculously bright and 5000k in temperature.

I tried the adhesive strip kind a while back and they didn't last 6 months.

I then tried this style:

and only got another 6 months (Winter seemed to destoy them).

I'm looking at the Morimoto X.DRL but I think it's too long. We only have about 5.5 inches in these brake ducts and they're about 6.3. I'm starting to think reliable LED's that fit in there isn't an option.

Has anyone tried the individual pod style LED's in the honeycomb holes?

We are yes and I agree with that which is why I decided against them in the first place....but here I am again....

I also saw on the reviews how bright they were...also an obstacle unless I wire them to turn off at night since I also have dual halos.

The ones I currently have in we're already a bit longer as well so these Morimotos should fit in my case. I noticed they are on backorder too....

yea I was gonna say the XB LED strips aren't waterproof so they're meant for inside the car or inside a housing.

I had seen some lights before on the GTR Lighting website and I bookmarked it. What do you guys think of these? I'm assuming they are waterproof since they are actual DRL's.

What I would like to know is if they would fit in our brake ducts?

At 5.75" Long, it might fit with some alteration of the duct. I wish the ducts were easily replaceable instead of being molded in. Have you seen any reviews of these? I nominate you to buy them and report back.

I'm wondering if the LEDayFlex DRL bulbs will work in the existing duct openings without drilling.

Has anyone had any experience with these?

Maybe something like this?

I only want to be nominated for an Oscar. I haven't seen any reviews of these anywhere but they seem to be decent considering the really cheaply made ones I saw on eBay. I do want to buy them but my issue is I have NO IDEA ABOUT WIRING or how to cut the brake duct to make it fit. I do remember seeing someone's ride, it may have been Ghozt, who literally cut the lights on each end and then applied silicone to waterproof them before fitting them into the middle part of the duct.

I'm only going to take this on if I decide to keep it. So don't wait on me.

The thought of permanently hacking up the duct only to have another set of lights burn out sucks. Even a bumper cover in rough shape is $300 if a new set of ducts needs to be epoxy'd back in place.

Since they are LED's they should last a pretty long while right? I don't plan on keeping them forever especially since I MAY trade up to the 8th gen after the first model year comes and goes.

No harm can come from trimming the brake ducts though right? I mean there is nothing behind them right?

Most of these aftermarket LED kits seem to have short lifespans and even shorter warranties. There's nothing behind the ducts, but once you cut into them, there's no going back. I really wish the ducts were a separate replaceable part.

I think I just may buy these strips after doing a little more research and I'll have to measure the duct and the lights once I get them. Of course, I'll have to find someone to add them to my Max as I'm not blessed in the wiring area.

The wiring is the easiest part. You can ground them anywhere under the hood and I tapped into a fuse that fed power to the lights only when the engine was running.

Many people on the Facebook page have installed the xdrl without issues. I personally have something similar to the individual bulbs posted above and they work great as well

Which Facebook page are you talking about?

What brand individual bulbs are you using and for how long?

Thanks!

Thanks...I used to belong to that group but must have backed out because I had to request to join again. I'd love to see some close up pics and details of brake duct LED's.

I ordered the Phillips 4 DRLs since I've heard great things on here about them and they will be a direct fit in the slot I've created for the current ones!

Do you realize that that was Klingon you just wrote?

What does that mean?

In that case, yeah...have someone do it for you.

I found some pics and the Morimoto X.DRL seems to squeeze in there. I'm thinking the tabs on that front plate could be filed down a bit for an even better fit.

That looks really sharp and clean. I'm still a fan of the square shaped ones that Ghozt has on his car. It just makes the look more complete. Where can you find these rounded ones at? Are they all together or are they separate pieces placed together?

These just came in and I'm realizing it will take all of 10 minutes to install these! My prior set I cut the brake duct and set them flush with the duct....not the front of the car so after a coat of paint over the old lights these will serve as a perfect mounting surface for the Phillips 4s!

I'd love to see the duct cut out before & after install if possible.

No problem!

I'll snap a shot of them as they are now with the current lights mounted and then after the Phillips are in and on.

And with nothing installed if you could please. I'm interested in how much "destruction" needs to be done to the duct itself.

Thanks!

I actually won't be pulling them back out since they are held in tightly with silicone but to give you an idea I cut the "chunk" that protrudes out from the middle between all of the mesh. I will still get some pics the best I can!
