eBay spoiler vs OEM?

I was on eBay yesterday looking at their spoilers available for my 2009 and it seems prices are pretty low. The one auction I came across was $119 BIN and that included having the spoiler painted.

My question then: Anyone go this route before? I really think that spoiler sets the car off and I definitely want one. I am worried more about the quality of the LED third brake light more so than the actual look or feel of the spolier. I have not really searched junkers parting anything yet but wanted to start simple with the eBay option and work my way from there. I would rather have OEM if the quality is better but should this be a six-of-one type thing then eBay is fine with me.

TIA

I ordered that same one and it is good but I have no way to compare it to OEM. The paint matches fine but I have KH3 super black. Blacks blend much easier than say a red or pearl white. The paint quality is fine but it isn't wet sanded and buffed. Has a somewhat orange peel effect but only really noticeable when really close. I ended up taking apart the third brake light and soldering the plug directly onto the spoiler led brake light. Ties into the factory system nicely. The installation was pretty easy. Only took my about two hours to make sure everything is lined up correctly. Finding the brake light hole cover is hard but a dealership should be able to help you. Oh and the led in the spoiler should be more red but I tinted it to match the 2012 headlights.

This is how I made a cover.

I don't have any pics of the install but I purchased mine from spoilerandwingking, I ordered mine thru amazon but u can order thru the company direct as well. My color code is qx3(satin white pearl) or winter frost whatever they call it. Match was 100% and install was fairly easy. Drilling holes in the trunk were alittle scary, but easier then I thought. Wiring it is easy since u just tap into the 3rd brake light. The quality I would say is the same as Oem, the only difference I've seen is Oem has I believe 5 screws and aftermarket has 3 plus a hole for wiring

I purchased the factory spoiler off of ebay. Instructions were super detailed and the kit included the newer style screw on wire taps. I fed the wires into existing ducts near the trunk hinges and then to the rear window brake light circuit. Paint match was perfect. I left all the lights including the rear window brake light intact as the light show is awesome! All of them also light up with the remote start kit.

I'm so going to do this. I did first like the look of my Max without the spoiler but now I want the spoiler. I want to add as much to it that I can (roof and rear spoiler, 19" wheels) before I trade it in.

The ground effects OEM kit is really inexpensive and looks real sharp at night. My dealer charged $158 to install it and spent 4 hours doing it! He charged me the quoted price and stuck to it. So far it's held up through one northern winter season.

The fourth brake light either from the spoiler or from the rear decklid can be a violation of law. I would check in to make sure it is legal as some states may only allow three brake lights. I think it looks a bit tacky, sorry, but it does bring attention to the rear of the car. I wonder if there is a module somewhere to flash it three times like you see on some higher end vehicles during emergency stops.

$158 is not a bad price considering the labor rates of dealers and OEM! I doubt the dealer around here will charge that low of a price, but I may give have to give them a call and ask. It seems like a neat feature to have in those dark areas. My previous car would turn on the headlights and reverse lights when you unlocked the car if it detected that it was dark. I suppose it cannot be done on our stock cars as it utilizes the HID headlights, and the constant on/off application of them will shorten the life.

PennDot Code # 175.66. Lighting and electrical systems:

"A vehicle specified under this subchapter shall have at least one red stop lamp on each side of rear of vehicle, which shall be illuminated immediately upon application of the service brake".......The PA code goes on to say a lot more and it's easy to Google. Federal law requires a 3rd stop light since 1985.

Most people tell me the 4 lights together look awesome! Purely a matter of personal choice.

It would be real easy to use a PIC chip or small PLC from Automation Direct to flash the rear window lamp 3 times or even one of the 4 input two output appliance PLC's. They boot up fast, can be powered by 12 - 24 volts and can easily be buried under rear deck. Programming is a snap using simple relay logic.

I love those accent lights. They look amazing. That is definitely a good price considering on the Nissan website they were over 300.

Wow, I didn't realize the list price was $300!!!!! My dealer charged me $108 for the ROCKER LED GROUND LIGHTING kit and $158 to install. I see it on ebay (OEM) for a low price also: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/190758441755?lpid=82

My buddy got this one from High Gear Auto Parts. It was perfect and easy to install. Paint was spot on.

I'm thinking about getting a spoiler myself from eBay.
What's involved with tapping into the third break light wiring?
And what do you guys used to seal up the drilled holes to avoid rusting?
thanks

u just need to tap into the factory wiring for the 3rd brake light, and apply touch up paint to the drilled holes before installing the spoiler

For tapping, does it involve splicing and soldering? Or something simple like connecting two existing connector heads?

If you get the factory kit it comes with Posi-tap wire connectors which are fast and secure, no soldering or stripping! You can also buy them at many places but none of the auto parts stores in my town has them in stock for some reason.

I just used wire taps, bought a pack, like $2...and also came in handy when I tapped into the rear deck speakers for my subwoofer install
