which is the best intake?

My next mood will be installing the intake. So far i wanted to get k&n intake but i dont know if there are better intakes like stillen or fujita or nismo... I want some increase in hp and the nice sound that it makes.

Which one would you recommend me?

I have the Takeda and I love it. I don't really think there is any real HP/Torque gain but the sound is very nice. It adds a very nice aggressive tone even at low rpm and gets pretty loud of course at WOT. Even at idle you can feel the tone when you stand near the car, something that was not noticeable with the stock box.

Cold air intake is a Myth ... It doesn't do anything but suck hot air into the engine... The only way it would work is forced air induction .. Stock air works best

What about k&n? Doesn't it add more hp like they say, like 13.5 ?

Yeah awhile back a member did it and he saw the temperatures drop. They were comparable to Ghozt self made CAI in terms of temperatures I believe.

I wat to so it but gotta find someway to make it actually look good in my engine bay lol

I wonder if there's a paint or coating of some sort we could use that would go on cleaner...

I don't believe any of these truly gain the car much if any horsepower but I do like the stillen I put on. Definitely makes a lot of noise under full throttle sounds great. Looks good too.
I will say that now since I put the stillen cat back exhaust on too it actually feels like the engine runs smoother and more aggressively. Seem to get a bit better mileage which is odd because I'm pretty much raping the car every time I drive it now to enjoy the sound.
If I were to tach out past someone without them seeing the car I believe they'd think it was something better than a maxima.
In other words I recommend stillen personally.

I have the AEM intake system and IMO is one of the best I've ever had. Sounds great as well and is proven to add power not take away.

http://youtu.be/Xq0EB5EmWoQ

Check out the video on YouTube. It even gives you step by step on how to install from AEM themselves. Good luck on choosing an intake.

400.00+ is crazy for an intake unit!!!

what about keeping the stock intake housing and ditching the flat intake filter and replacing it with a conical shaped one? this would be ideal for keeping temps to a minimum as well as adding that intake growl we all love. is it do able?

Yes $400+ for an intake unit is much but as with anything, you pay for what you get. I found it for a bit under that price. I did so because my car is brand new and still under warranty. Plus it's backed by a pretty good warranty through AEM as well. Not to mention the dealership is perfectly fine with me having this on the car without voiding anything.

I use the Reactive Brand with a K&N filter on my last ride and it was great. I also added the NGK Spark plugs and cable. 1st round of inexpensive mods.

Well i already bought k n and installed it today. It runs a little better except the noise that it makes below 30mph. I know that it is suppoused to make noise but this is not a normal one , it's like the car is not breathing well. Well thats the way i see it, maybe im not used to the noise and i find it kind of weird.

all the short rams are the same, its a short tube with a cone. heat shields dont really work either, people have done testing with those.

Prior to getting my K&N short ram I tried simply replacing the stock filter with the conical shaped filter along with the stock housing but the set up is not made for that and will not allow it. Ive had the K&N for about 2 months and I love it adds just enough sound to make it more aggressive.

The best intake is subjective, just like the more playing cards hitting the bicycle spokes and the faster you pedal the more noise you'll get.....

Heat shield has been proven to work. Won't be night and day but it will make a big enough difference to spend the $15 for the heat wrap. At least that is what I gathered from the 350Z forums

not in my testing. you'll see a couple degrees difference, maybe more if you use heat reflective tape, but otherwise how is a heat shield going to block ambient heat?

Well yes I meant heat reflective tape if there is a difference (kinda thought it was the same lol) but this is where I got my information from

http://m.my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=335375

What I think would make this really effective is to wrap the hoses as well as the box from the inside and out.

One could also try to wrap it that the box is completely closed off but it will be a challenge with the big R2C filter.

I will be looking into the new Hex Filter as well but I just bought some thermo-tec 1.5"x15' thermo-shield wrap for under $15 so I will try to wrap as much as I can and see if it makes a difference.

Figure it's a lot easier than fabricating a real CAI lol so it Can't hurt to try right?

But yes Ghozt could one not counter the ambient heat by completely sealing the box like stock?

Hey Ghozt your opinion means a lot so do you think I would be better off with my stock box and a kn drop in filter over the heat wrapped r2c?

So I put back on the stock air box and boy do I miss the sound. Lol the car sounds so boring without it (still have my OEM exhaust). I will be getting a performance filter so I'll see if it makes a difference (Apexi). Depending on how it feels I might be selling my R2C. Love the SRI but no reason to keep it just for sound and while I believe heat wrapping would help tremendously I don't want to take the time to do that. Lol

Yes they do and according to the reviews it was better than the K&N. The only disadvantage is that the filter last a max of 15,000 miles so it is not reuseable

the heat-wrapped R2C performed surprisingly well, but still saw some good heat soak off the line. if you want the sound of a short ram, I'd go with that or AEM so you can heat-tape the outside of the shield to help reflect heat away. my buddy Jay did testing with the R2C with and without heat wrap and it was the closest temps we saw to my old custom CAI.

best performance bet between stock and SRI would be drop-in filter on the stock box; both on this car and the 6th gen they work very well. its not exactly worth it to move the battery for an intake, but if you want to go that route a true CAI kicks ***. i sold mine to MaxDOut if you want to ask him for reviews on the true CAI too. this guy - http://forums.maxima.org/7th-generat...-new-pics.html

If you are looking for sound go for the AEM I love the sound however the power wasn't the best just roars like it has. I've notice the stock is actually the best way to go unless you do what Ghozt did and customize a cold air intake. The stock actually worked for me the best. y-pipe, udp, spacer, block off plates, K&N filter, timing advance oh and grounding kit. if anything just do your normal bolt on and tune in my opinion. but if you have the money to blow go for it. the sound you cant beat but the low end power is what you will loose. good luck.

Okay. Thank you! Yeah I ended up heeding your warning about the ambient heat and putting back the stock box. Ordered an Apexi drop in filter but until it arrives I'm using the fram one.

I definitely miss the sound but the other day the car just felt sluggish and I can only link it to the heat soak. I will test out the Apexi filter and then after if anything I will sell my R2C

I'm almost certain that all of the SRI sound the same but I have the R2C so I wouldn't shell out $400 for the AEM who claims on their site that the SRI is not compatible with my car. (2010 sport)
