Ok folks - someone needs to explain something to me.

Are we are saying that the 9th gen Maxima (all years??? 09 and up???) limits the throttle up to ~30mph? As in - even though you stomp the gas pedal to the floor off-the-line, it never actually gets to WOT until ~30mph?? Nissan limits the throttle off-the-line to protect the CVT - in theory??

My 2010, when pegged, reads 88.4% throttle - that's WOT.

I knew that mine goes WOT before 30mph, but couldn't tell exactly when, so I checked it out yesterday.

I brake torqued it. Held the brake and hit the gas pedal to the floor. Speed is 0.0mph and throttle immediately goes to 88.4%. It goes WOT at 0mph.

How exactly is this Nissan detuning the car to protect the CVT??

It is probably the CVT starting in a numerically lower..therefore higher...gear as in... it starts in second gear by conventional computer automatic transmission standards and gradually slides into a more torque friendly ratio at about 30 mph. There is no doubt at all that the car is sluggish from 0-30. Why? Have any tuners looked at the CVT as the culprit?

You have the 9th generation Maxima? Sweet!
What numbers are you reading? I think there is more than just one number, one is actual throttle, the other is calculated/commanded throttle, if I remember correctly.
Here is the other thread for your reference: https://maxima.org/forums/7th-genera...bove-80-a.html

BAAHAHA! The 9th gen looks just like the 7th gen. I know cause I gots one. LOL. Oops - used to own a 9th gen Corolla....hence the screw up.

I am looking at relative throttle position. There is also an absolute throttle position. The only difference between the two is that absolute is what the ECU sees as a result of the voltage (it's a 5V scale so 5V is 100% and we'll say 1V is 0%) whereas relative is based on the "learned" throttle position because the two are rarely the same.

If it says 88.4% at WOT, then 88.4% is wide open (at least on my car). Yours will be different, as this is a learned value and won't be exactly the same between two more-or-less identical engines.

The engine rpm at WOT should be 3200-4100rpm at 25mph and 4700-5600rpm at 37mph. That's how Nissan designed this car. It's not because it's limiting the throttle, the CVT is just designed like this.

Does what? Wide open throttle is wide open throttle...the Maxima only limits it upwards of 85mph.
