iPhone 6 replace key?

Just wondering if anyone has any insight into a way to use our smart phones to replace our intelli-key. I'd love to not need to carry my keys and be able to open my doors and start her up with just my phone in my pocket. Wasn't sure if the NFC chip in the new iPhone might make this possible?

And if not, this has got to be coming in the near future, right?

You would trust your cell phone, an item that has a battery life of less than a full day, to be the only option you have of starting your car? Your cell phone craps out, you are car less. Who ever heard of a key fob breaking down except for a battery replacement. Your phone gets hacked, your car gets stolen, no one has ever hacked into a key fob.

There are many more reasons you could think of why this will probably never happen.

i can see this occurring. They already have remote start apps via wifi. (see viper alarm systems.) I don't think it a good idea but hey, I can see it happening.

If they did do it there would have to be a option for another starting mechanism as I don't plan on purchasing a smart phone just to start a car. My dumb slider phone is all I need to make phone calls.

LOL...I am quite sure they would. Eventhough my s5 has nfc, I can still use bluetooth, wifi, and infrared for compatibility with older/other devices. Even the viper remote start still allows for "normal or manual" control. But like you, i still have an old-fashioned "land line" in my house, just in case!

Wonder how valet parking is going to be accomplished. Handing over your watch is out of the question.

Ahh... Silicone Valley, too much money and too much weed makes these things possible!
