problem with heated/cooled seat knob
problem with heated/cooled seat ****
i have an 09 maxima and recently, when I turn on either the heated seat or cooled seat ****, it lights up, but shuts off 4 seconds later and stays off. however, the passenger side heated seat still works the whole time.
I checked the fuse anyways and its fine. I checked the wiring thinking maybe there is a loose wiring or soldering job and its fine as well.
can the problem be a result of a faulty thermostat? what else can it be that is causing this? I called the dealership and they said they never heard of this problem on a 7th gen maxima...

FSM states that if the climate control seat system turns off in 10 seconds or less from the time it was turned on the cause is electrical. Such as a defective TED or blower motor. See if you blower motor is functioning other wise the seat will need to be removed to check or fix anything.
You can check fan operation without removing the seat. The rest of the system will require removal of the seat. Your fuses and switches for the climate control seat are probably fine.
The fan should be running regardless if it is on heat or cool. The way the system works is the TED's (thermal electric devices) provide heat or cool. The fan circulates the heat or cool through the TED's and by ducts to the seat back and bottom.
If there is no air circulation through the ducts because the fan in not operating properly you will not get any heating or cooling.
Actually, the system shutting off and going into fail safe mode, like yours is doing, is quite common.
There are temperature sensors in each of the TED's. If they failed you would have to replace the entire TED. The system consists of two TED's, one fan, a control unit and the wiring that connects them. These are all mounted in or under the seat. One of those components has probably failed electrically.

Everything you want to about the seats and than some is in the "SEAT" section of the FSM.

If the voltage provided to the climate control seats is not stable and drops below a set value the system will go into fail safe mode and shut down. So that makes sense. Although with a faulty battery I would expect the car to have other issues also.

This may be the same, well-discussed problem with earlier models and I never saw a good fix for it. Does the seat heater (light) come back on if you restart the car? My '11 did that, but only if I start it out on Max setting. One click lower and it doesn't overload. Let it warm up a bit at a lower setting and then you can turn it to Max.
My '12 has no problems.
