TPMS issue

I had problems a while ago with my tires leaking then I went to the dealership where they supposedly fixed them (they are still leaking but they keep saying it's because of the cold weather) then my tpms light came on and i went back and they reprogrammed the sensors and then after a few days the light came back on again and i was gonna go back a third time but it went off on my way there so i canceled my appointment and then after like a week it came back on.. When i start the car it flashes for like a minute and then it stays on. I don't know what to do should I go back there again? I keep trying to put more pressure in the tires but the light stays on so I'm guessing there's something else wrong with it... Is there a way to maybe reset it myself ?
Edit: It's a 2009 maxima and it does not have any kind of warranty.

Sounds like the sensor batteries are going dead.

How much would it cost me approximately if I was to replace the sensor batteries?

The sensors are sealed units with batteries within them. They last 5-7 years.
You can get a set of 4 (original oem nissan sensors for $60-70 on ebay). Should replace all of them at once. Take it to a tire place and they can do it, make sure they know how to resync the sensors.

I got one of the sensors replaced at the dealership. My friend that fixes cars said that new sensors need to be programmed which can only be done at nissan dealerships

The sensors have unique RFID addresses.

Looks like there is a manual process:

It seems that every Nissan/Infiniti Equipt with OEM Schrader TPMS you can RESET/RELEARN anytime you want.

Step 1: Set the tires to the following pressures, they have to be exact:

Tire position Tire pressure kPa (kg/cm2, psi)
Front LH 240 (2.4, 34)
Front RH 220 (2.2, 31)
Rear RH 200 (2.0, 29)
Rear LH 180 (1.8, 26)

Step 2: Locate the TPMS interface plug. This is a white female plug that is attached to the OBD II wire loom under the dash right about where your left knee would be when sitting in the driver's seat. You may have to cut the tape that is holding the TPMS interface plug to the OBD II wire loom.I found mine 4 inches up and to the left inside the fuse box near your left knee.It is very short versus other vehicles I looked at.

Step 3: Attach a paper clip or wire into the interface plug.

Step 4: Put your key in the ignition and turn it to the last click before the engine starts.Or push the push start button twice. This is the KOEO position (Key On, Engine Off).

Step 5: Tap the end of the paper clip on any exposed ground (metal) 6 times within 10 seconds of turning ignition on.Make sure it is a real ground and not just any metal you find.

Step 6: If you completed step 5 then the TPMS warning light will start to slowly flash and you have activated the TPMS relearn process. If it flashes fast that's not right. If yours isn't flashing slowly then check your connections, turn the ignition off and start over at step 4.

Step 7: Once you confirm the lights do not stop flashing, step on the brake and start the car. Do not turn the car to OFF position. Start driving >25mph until the light goes out. It could take as long as ten minutes.

Step 8: The light will quickly come back on due to the low tire pressures. Refill your tires to the correct pressure.

Step 9: MODS,PEASE make this a sticky!And give me a thanks

Oh okay that's helpful maybe I will try it when I have time. I don't know if you said that this is the way they do it at the dealership but I don't think it is because when I went there all they did was they had a small device that they held on each tire and that's all they needed to do to program it.

Yeah, they have a rfid "wand" which reads the unique id of each sensor then they input into the consult computer. The above manual technique is for those with dealer avoidance syndrome. I'll do damned near anything to avoid dealer service.
