Had the TCM and ECM update yesterday. Impressions.
Hello,
I have been having some slight sluggishness and "laziness" on acceleration for the past few weeks, alongside some vibration when trying to kind of stump on it with my 09.
I know I'm very conservative driving this car, but still felt somehow curious on how to improve things. Car is wonderfully maintained by previous owner, no CEL, no codes, dealer maintained for the past 80k miles, and drives smooth and quiet. I had 2 runs of CVT drain/fill with NS2 fluid 2 months apart along with new filter. Previous owner changed CVT fluid at 60k at a Nissan dealer
Anyway, I came across an TSB dated December 2009 (NB09-138) that exactly describes all the above. And was thinking why not?
Took my car to my local dealer, good thing the advisor is a very cool lady. Printed the TSB and asked her to check if it applies, and if engine control module has any software update. Half an hour later she reported that TSB applies to my TCM version and there is an update for the ECU too. I asked to perform both. 2 hours later and I'm on the road.
Impressions are very positive. Car is smoother to idle first out the bat. Throttle response is noticeably (but subtly) more aggressive. Now the RPM does not try to settle at 1212 as before, the transmission wants to stay around 1500 at all time (obviously unless faster than around 45mph, when it naturally goes up as you speed), even when off throttle. Car in general is more aggressive now, maybe slightly noisier (as RPM are slightly higher) but has more sporty feel (for a Maxima of this gen). TSB mentions that MPG may go down a little which is logical. My instrument cluster is back to 21 to 22 range but honestly I dont rely on it and at the end of this tank I'll know for sure.
I'm attaching the TSB below, credits to nissanhelp.com for hosting the file from which I got.
I hope this would be helpful for anyone reading this.
