How did she insert the key in the place without the fob?
She wasn't supposed to disconnect key from fob.
Does the key wiggle or any movement?

Damn, it's possible some debris went in with the key, pocket dust, something on the slot it self, either way it's not letting go either because of that, or perhaps the key is not correctly cut, got it in, but a bump in there isn't letting it out. I'm guessing this is the first time you've ever put it in, as you typically don't need to use it except emergency. Wiggling the wheel is the usual fix, but if you've tried that, could be a real problem...sorry I don't have any ideas

She used the key to open the door and just stuck the key into the fob holder... first time she had to use key... Might just leave it there and get new key for fob

Doh ! You must not put the key in the dash slot at the left of the seering wheel. It is for the keyfob to be able to start your car if the keyfob battery is dead.

Try to insert a thin metal tool on the left, right side or both side of the slot and pull the key out
