Strange Vibration

Maybe my wheels are out of balance but when maintaining a speed between 70-80 the car vibrates. Upon letting of the accelerator the car rides smooth. Not sure if I have wheel out of balance or motor mount or something else. Driving me nutz.

any advice?

Maybe a bad coil pak? Misfire of some sort? May take some time before it throws a 3xx code.

Hmm. Ok. And my fuel mileage has been suspect. 16-17 in the city and I got 21-23 on highway

I’ll hook my scanner up and see if anything shows.

Check tire pressures, rotate and see if the vibration moves with the tires, Road force balancing is great for random vibrations in tires and wheels.

Search for a road force balancer near you before you hit the road.

A road force tire balancer uses a load-roller to simulate the force of the road and gather the combined uniformity of a wheel and tire package. Road force balancers measure the force variation and runout of the whole wheel and tire assembly.

I had the same issue. I had a bent rim and my tires were not balanced properly. A new rim and balance job later my car still has a very slight shimmy but nothing like what was going on at first. Also it seems like my car only does this in the morning. Its almost like the tires have to warm up because after my initial morning drive I don't notice it.

What is your tires brand? Some tires develp flat spots especially if not driven for some time and in cold weather.

They are Dimax. They were brand new on the car when I bought it in March.

Balance and rotate your tires, then see how it goes from there. Also inspect your tires for cupping / feathering (cupping suspension issue / feathering alignment issue). Have you ever felt a loss of power going up a hill? If so, then your coils may be going out, coil issues usually are more present when the vehicle is under load. For older vehicle with ignition wires, problems happen when it's raining.

When I bought my car used, it had a slight shimmy in the front end that turned out to be a bent control arm. Had that changed out and it's drives smooth.

Check your strut-mounts. Open the hood, and while pushing up/down on the car, observe the strut-mounts to see if there is any play between the strut and the strut mount. The strut's bolt/nut should not move.

If they are good, then start checking each piece of the rest of the suspension for play.
