09 oil leak

Hello Max family,

Forgive me if this has been brought up somewhere but I cannot find it. I have a 09 Maxima SV sport package. I noticed this past Saturday morning that some oil is leaking from my car. it's not alot. I will say that morning that I noticed it there was more on my garage floor. Again, not alot but more than on the attached photo. It's leaking from somewhere on the passenger side of the engine. I have attached a photo. Does anyone know what this might be? I don't have access to lifts and whatnot and was too lazy to get my jack out and do that to see where it may be coming from. Lol! Any info would be greatly appreciated.

About this much every day since I noticed it.

Looks like you’ve got a leaky johnson rod, easy fix. Go to your local parts store and ask for one.

Thanks for being a good sport and putting up with our feeble attempts at humor.

The Black piece you have in the middle of your pan is part of plastic "rivet" or connector. The male piece has a head and tail and would fit into that female piece to secure a plastic piece to the frame. It wouldn't have any impact on oil leakage.

The oil itself looks clean leading me to believe it is from the oil filter or the drain plug (perhaps whomever change the oil last forgot to install a new crush washer??? Unfortunately, you will have to crawl under the car to look or take it somewhere you trust.

If that all looks fine, the next step would be around the valve covers but I would expect the oil to be more "dirty"

Let us know what you find.

Thanks Lt.

That sounds logical. And yeah I just put that piece in the pan because it was a tad breezy and didn't want the pan to move. My car is at my mechanics now. I'll update when I hear from him.

Happy to report my mechanic said it was the plug. he noticed the washer was missing from it. Whew! You were spot on Lt. BUT I will be stopping by the spot where I got my oil changed bout a month ago and asking why they didn't notice that and or how they forgot to put the washer back on. Didn't have this issue before I took it there.

Reasons like this are why I change my own oil on all of my cars and do as much as the maintenance/repairs as possible. Way back in my 20's, I used to take my car to Walmart for oil changes on my b1tchin' 1992 camaro. Developed an oil leak right afterwards. Turns out, the turkey who worked on my car screwed up the oil pan by crossthreading the oil pan bolt into it. Dealer had to replace the oil pan to the tune of $350ish. When you're making minimum wage at $4.25/hour, that repair really hurt my wallet. From that point forward, I swore to myself I would work on my own cars.

I hear you loud and clear. I went to this place because it was in my neighbor and they used Mobil 1 oils. I will not be going back. I have a good buddy that has a shop, they guy who figure this out today. I’m gonna just start buying my own oil and taking it to him. I’m just not mechanically inclined. At all.

I hear you but like the Wizard, I've had stripped plugs and changes where they don't replace the drain plug correctly. Our Maximas make use of a copper crush washer to get a good seal. You may want to check with your buddy and make sure you bring him some crush washers along with your oil and filter.

Sounds great, got a source of supply for those teflon sheets you use? Not something I see regularly at the local home supply store!
