Transmission appears to stay in low gear (RPM stays between 4k-5.5k) when hot

I drive 100 miles round trip 5 days a week for work. Never have had an issue. Yesterday was hotter than usual and I got stuck in horrible traffic. After leaving the standstill traffic, it was a lot of speeding ups and slowing downs. About 30 minutes into the drive, I realized my car was having a light whine noise and revving super high! Even when I switched lanes and slowed down to about 70mph. I pulled over for a bit and put in park. I drove the rest of the way home without issues. I have about 84k miles. About a month ago I checked the fluid, it looked brand new. I was going to drain and do filter change. Should I do the filter and fluid change anyways? Can anyone link me or post picture to the filter needed? I want to be sure I have the correct one. Some videos I came across show a different style filter? Like a canister type vs the flat one that goes in the filter pan.

Change fluid every 30 to 40k miles.
one “almost square” filler in the pan. You can spray down with brake cleaner. Drip pan and you will see it.

one filter also by the driver side, cylindrical, and close to the fog light. Also clean with brake fluid.

drain and fill same amount, about 5 quarts. About 1 hour easy DIY.
NS2 fluid. Good luck and report back.

agree as well

i had that wine sound. Bought stepper off eBay and did surgery (easy).
had to replace transmission as the slippage was too bad.

he can do that plus change stepper. Cost about $30 on ebay. Stealership don’t sell it

Thanks for the info!

But unfortunately, I got in an almost head on collision yesterday, pushed into a ditch and a tree stopped me. Car handled the accident remarkably well. But it's a total loss.

Glad you're OK. Just curious what are you getting next? If you don't mind sharing.

Thanks. I was looking at the newer Maximas, but leaning towards a brand new Camry TRD. Although from the air bag coming out I'll have a permanent Nissan emblem scarred into my arm so now I'm tempted to look for another Nissan 😅

glad all is well.

I kept my 11 maxima and had the trans replaced at 256k miles. Still running strong.

bought the 22 camry and love the gas mileage :
600 miles on a full tank vs maxima 425 on full

test a few before buying

was a toss up between a 20 maxima and the 22 camry.
