Weird noise from under hood, near the driver side wheel

I attached the noise file as an attachment in this post.

2012 Nissan Maxima SV. Its real loud on a cold start. That subsidies when I shift into drive.

And it comes back loud again when I drive up a steep hill. I also get a hesitation when I hit the gas or a delay of like 2 seconds before the car moves. This doesn't happen all the time maybe like 3 times a day.

I've also changed my bank 2 cat, since I had a p0430 code. I also had a p0101 and P0011 code. But they went away after I changed my Throttle Body a month ago and never came back.

I have no idea what the issue could be, any help would be greatly appreciated.

is it the whining noise? That sounds like a pump whining, If its near the driver side that's where the transmission would be, it might unfortunately be within the transmission. Do you know if the transmission fluid level is okay?

Yea, I have no idea, I have never ever did a transmission flush or anything like that before

What's the mileage on it? I would consider getting it looked at by a transmission shop that knows CVT well, my best guess is it sounds like the noise is coming from the transmission. Might get luck and a fluid/filter change will fix it but it shoiuld be serviced by somewhere that knows CVT well as it requires specific fluid etc

Holy smokes I think most recommend every 25-40,000 miles for a CVT fluid change, thats high mileage on original fluid. Before getting the fluid changed I would definitely see if you can have a transmission guy to take a listen to it in person, without seeing it in person my best guess is the noise is from the CVT

Yea, I know thats terrible that I haven't changed the transmission fluid. I am going to take it to a transmission place. But, I have a feeling they will just tell me to replace the tranny without even changing the fuild and filter first.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help me out.

Well, it turns out my Transmission is completely gone. And that it will need to be replaced. A fluid flush/filter change wont do anything at all. The technician at the Transmission place told me, he is surprised my tranny lasted this long with out it breaking. And that in his 20 years of experience, that is the loudest noise he has ever heard a tranny make.

I had been driving with it making that noise now since October of last year. Because, I thought it was the power steering pump. Never though it was the tranny.

I will just buy another car due, because he quoted me at $5500 for a new tranny and labor. He called 3 different Nissan dealerships to try and get me a tranny lower than $4500. But they were all around the same price.

He advised me that price for a tranny is a rip off, and that they only offer a 12000 mile warranty with that price.

I've driven my max 5000 miles a month a few times in its time with me.
Did the transmission guy say what it was making the noises in the cvt? Mine makes some nasty racket in the summer.

He, did but to be honest I tuned him out when he first called and told me the price. I think he said something about, the clutch pack might be worn. And that that it might be more damaged internally.
