Need help with p0746

Hello everyone,

I have a 2011 maxima 6/11 date and i am getting the p0746 code. What solenoid is this? also dose anyone know what the ohms should be when i test it?

*updated 2/15*
Original problem was this code. Also the transmission would not shift out of first gear. then a safe mode would activate and feel like it is stuck in 4th gear.

I assume you have done the CVT oil pressure tests first? But the sensor resistance reading is 3-9 ohms measured from pin2 to ground on the connector F46. Usually, due to cvt oil condition. Like clogged in-line filter, NS-2 level high or low., dirty. According to service data that solenoid is not serviceable, and they recommend a cvt replacement.is it is indeed bad. If you have never serviced the cvt with a drain and fill and replacement of the external filter, I would do that first.

No to the pressure test. Yeah the pan looked like there was never a change of the oil. The magnets were full but not big metal shavings at all. the oil was brown. The filter in the pan was completely clogged. (cleaning this out stopped the whine noise it was making). I took the stepper motor out and put it back in(amazon stepper motor set code instantly) . This got rid of p1778. I also changed the filter on the outside as well.

This is why i wanted to test the sensors... but if i cant replace them this would make it pointless.

I got the car knowing it needed a transmission but i wanted to see if there was anything that i can fix as the inside of it looks good.

That suvks, but as an aside, did you clear the lines running to and thru the cooler and filter back to the trans? With it being as gunkef up aa you mentioned, their could be something clogging the flow there.

no just replaced and cleaned the filters. I am going to have to break it down once more. and check the lines next. I also got a video of what it is doing currently.

Also the car has not gone into limp mode since the valve body switch. But on my CVTZ app i get no primary pressure now compared to before.

The car also dose have 232k miles lol.

It almost assuredly has to be a transducer./sensor. Perhaps related to the "new" valve body or connection. Without the pump pressure, nothing would work!!! What codes is it throwing now? Same ones?

My next step will be taking out the transmission later today and swapping it sometime this weekend or next week. I am out of ideas... i will be opening it up later as well to see if anything is wrong on the inside.

but i really feel like there is a leaking seal somewhere. I had something like this on my other car when the for seal was loose causing it not to build enough pressure..

here are some pics of the cvt app and the old trans and the poly mounts.

I also cracked a little bit of the block putting the new transmission in : (.

But So far so good! also you can see that the virtual gear goes past 1 now! The car pulls nice and a much more solid feel with no vibration in cabin and no more yanking and banging from the old mounts lol.

My plan is to sell the car but i want to make sure that everything is fixed before selling it other than the tires and tire pressure sensors.

The story is not done yet sadly. The battery cable - terminal needs to be change since it was loose and i checked the fluid and it was low. So i started the car up today and let it warm up to check and drove it around the neighborhood. when i got back to the house i got cvt P0868. So i am hoping that it is just because of the low fluid levels. I only put 6 bottles of the Nissan NS-2 and also emptied out the torque converter when it was out. I was watching the temps as well of the oil and it did not get hot.

Stay tuned lol

So i added about 9 bottles to the transmission from 6 and now the level is correct. I do have a leak at the hose going to the transmission which is the Primary line. I will be fixing that shortly.

The main problem i am having now is p0174. Bank 2 lean. I do need a new exhaust gasket for bank 1 from the cat to the y flex pipe as there is a small leak.

I cant seem to find why bank 2 is lean though. It is the only code now.

Take a look between the plenum and firewall. There is a hose running from the pcv valve that has a tendency to crack or wear open causing this code.

I will take a look at the hose i replaced it with to see if it is leaking. I replaced the original hose already due to the crack in it.

So now i have p0171 and p0174 pending. i did a smoke test and no leaks in the intake. I fixed all the exhaust leaks. I will be trying to see if the gaps are causing the issue with the new spark plugs I put in.

Update!

The car is now working with no codes and no transmission codes and passes emissions! It was the mass air flow sensor. There was a aftermarket one in it! The car is now working amazing and the mounts feel super solid. Super slight vibration in cabin from the poly mounts but the engine feels solid now and barely moves. maybe this will help the transmission from here on out now. I feel like the mounts might be causing issues with the transmissions. I may be wrong.

I will post some pics and vids later on.

.Try these things first before you
spend the $ on a new CVT.

1. Replace the Valve Body with a new one.
2. At the same time that you do a Valve Body replacement. Install a heavy duty transmission cooler

3. Replace the external transmission filter.
4. Fresh CVT fluid.

You should good to go after that.
