2014 Nissan Maxima SV iPod problem.
2014 Nissan Maxima SV iPod problem.
Hello guys and gals,
Been checking this forum for some time now but first time poster. I've had my 2014 Nissan Maxima for a few months now. After reading the manual and going through some "manual videos" on YouTube I learned that the 2014 SV had a USB port that charges and plays music directly from the iPod. So I went and dug out my old iPod Video 5th Generation model. Surprisingly after a long charge I was able to fire it up without a problem. So I decided to go and plug it in my car. The car is picking up the signal when I plug the iPod in because when on the USB screen in the car it says "please wait" and after a few seconds I says. "Please check/confirm your iPod" but when I go and look at the iPod the unit is charging but there is no Nissan screen or anything to click or confirm. I even unplugged the headphones to see if that would work and nothing. Plugged the headphones back in and music played out of the headphones. I tried to unplug the usb port and the apple plug multiple times with the same results. "Please check/confirm ipod" with nothing to confirm on the actual iPod. I know the car is reading it cause that screen doesn't show up unless I plug in the iPod so I don't know what I'm actually supposed to do? Maybe my model is too old and not compatible? It did come out in 2006? Has anyone else run into this problem? Have any of you figured out a workaround other than Bluetooth? I would really like to have this ipod hooked up Incase I have no service and can strictly use my phone for calls and gps. Does anybody know what models of iPods are and are not compatible with the 2014 Maxima? I can't find any real information anywhere. So any help would be extremely appreciated! Anyway, happy new year and thanks for taking the time to read this! I hope I can get some help! Thanks.

whats an ipod? jk
i feel your pain.. but i dont think its worth the hassle, stick with bluetooth, and maybe purchase your songs (or select few favs) like we all did during the ipod days then you dont need service and you still have music in the car
ipods are so long gone the probability of you finding help is slim
better yet, grab all those ipod songs onto your phone or a usb and done.

I wrote an entire reply before but was logged out for some reason. Anyway, I'll try to remember some of what I wrote and get down to the gist of it...
I know the iPod isn't exactly "new tech" but I figured maybe there is some old school Maxima heads on here that had iPods when they were still popular. So I'm just wondering if it ever worked for anybody?
Also, unfortunately all the songs and playlists I had on there are long gone with the laptop/hard drive that has been long been dead. So I can't really just take the songs off of the iPod. When I plug it in to my new computer it only gives me the option to "restore" which I definitely don't want to do.
It just sucks because there is a lot of songs on there that aren't on any streaming services and I'd love to be able to have them back. I also listen to music fairly loud so it's kind of a buzzkill when you're driving enjoying a tune and you get a text or phone call alert. I know I could silence those but I kind of have to be on call for family emergencies.
So yeah, I'm just reaching out incase anyone might have went through what I am going through and have a workaround or are using a more "current" version of the iPod that actually works. So I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope that someone comes along and can help me out!
But I appreciate your quick reply and your kindness in trying to help me. All the best!
theres a way to get the songs off the ipod, but again it will take work, apple's ipod is notoroious for making file coping/ folder finding hard. they code all the songs and folders randomly so you have to copy all the files off the ipod and have a bunch of random file names but they will be the actual song files and albums. look it up you can still get your songs off the ipod.
i did this with a friends ipod 14 years ago and I got all the songs off there.
your best bet is get your paid music off that ipod and move on.

from what I remember, you just need itunes on the computer you are using and sign in there and plug in the ipod and sync it up, then you can look at the "hidden" song folders and decrypted song files are burried in there.
you just need to have the same account that was used for the ipod. good luck

So yeah, I checked out a few other threads on here with the same problem and I saw it mentioned a few times about using the original apple cable that came with the iPod. Which is also long gone. But I did find an oem version of it on the Apple Store for $20 bucks so I decided to order it and give it a shot. Hopefully that works! If not, I'll try to figure out a way to remove the songs off the iPod. Thanks!
I heard there are ways but I honestly don't know how. Do you know of any apps or anything that I could possibly use to get the songs off the iPod? Any information would help. Thanks.
Perhaps you could find a Bluetooth transmitter for the iPod and connect it to a transmitter in the Maxima? I have a Bluetooth transmitter plugged into my console charging plug which has a short 3.5mm to Aux wire plugged into it and into the audio jacks. Sorry I could'nt find an alternative to Bluetooth but maybe this way you don't risk losing your music.

stuff like that is not done with apps, you just have to look into how to do it manually, plugging it into a PC would be your best bet to migrate the songs to a usb or phone w storage
and yea the transmitter is actually a decent Idea if you don't want to do anything else.

hey guys!
I just wanted to give you all a heads up. I actually got the iPod working through the Nissan iPod hookup!!!
It works beautifully and I have full control on the Nissan display and dial with charging, artists, songs, playlists and all! If you check my post above you'll see that I mentioned ordering an original 30-pin iPod cable directly from Apple. (About $20 bucks total) so it showed up yesterday and voila! The Nissan logo appeared and everything started working as it should!
So I just wanted to thank everyone for trying to help me! And a heads up if anyone runs into this same problem if they want to hook up their old iPod. The Nissan will not properly pick up the signal unless it is the proprietary Apple cable. No other "Apple approved" cables will work. Only the actual cable the iPod originally came with, which surprisingly is still available on the Apple Store online.
So yeah, thanks again to everyone who responded and have a great one! And I hope this can help someone else one day!
Take care!
