CVT fails to shift into gear
CVT fails to shift into gear
Hi All,
I am a first time owner of a 2014 Maxima S. I purchased this unit 1 year ago and for the first nine months it was great. It then would run fine during a 30 mile morning commute. It then would be very very slow to come up to speed when accelerating. I too it in for a fluid change and that brought some improvement but feel back to slow starts. I then had the fluid flushed after a few months, changed the filter, replaced the oil pan gasket, transaxle inspected, and a variety of other serviced items. It seemed to respond nicely, until yesterday, Smooth commute home, leaving after dinner it was very very slow dropping into drive. and this morning, it will not shift into drive. Giving it a little gas, the rpms drop like its trying to **** but nothing and no reverse either. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, though I will rest the ECM gain, that did bring some improvement once before.

Which filter was replaced? If the one inside the pan, did they use oem or aftermarket. Many a problem with aftermarket. If they haven't replaced the external filter, I would start there. Also, check the fluid level. Low level will cause these symptoms as well and as always, check, the charging system. Believe it or not, many a supposed cvt issue was really an alternator going south causing drivability issues...especially initially, when hot and then later on, at all times.
Early CVTs were pretty **** all across the board, they were laggy and didn't handle power well. Step on the gas, count to three while the transmission selects the proper ratio, then go. That turned a lot of people off, and rightfully so.
