The 8th generation Maxima...prototypes, news, updates, rumors and more

Thanks for this update robtroxel. We've been kind of tracking this in this thread: https://maxima.org/forums/8th-genera...s-more-30.html Last year it was October 19th when Nissan announced the 2018 model. Started showing up at dealers by mid-November. Therefore thought it might be around the same timeframe this year, but your point about the new Altima is a good one. Curious why you don't want an '18, what you think is worth waiting for with the '19, since from what we've learned to date the changes are expected to be relatively minor.

robtroxel, for what it's worth, I actually feel much the same way. I know I could get great value out of an '18 -- assuming I could still find the Platinum I want in the colors I want (which right now I know I can) -- but prefer to pay for what the '19 would offer. I also feel that way because of where I am in my life/what I can now afford (wouldn't have felt this way when I bought my first Maxima in 2005) and because I plan to keep the car for many years (still am driving my '05, now with 178,000 miles on it). Certainly, to each his own. But as of right now, I'm planning on getting a '19 and willing to wait and pay for it.

Next month I will notify Nissan Leasing that I will extend for 3 months till late Jan 2019. Hopefully, that will cover the shortfall in release dates

Not sure how accurate this June article will end up being on forecasting what the 2019 Maxima will have/change, but interesting that they're predicting AWD as a given. Guess we'll know for sure in about a month: https://nissanalliance.com/nissan/20...an-maxima-awd/

One would think as the article says what new for the Altima should show up in the Maxima.
Read this article in the Link provided and you will see the Maxima is not listed as getting (Safety Shield 360) the new tech that
the 2019 Altima and Rogue will have.

My lease ends in December and I just spoke with Nissan about my options. They said as of 2 weeks ago, Nissan isn't doing lease extensions anymore because they lose too much money on them. They said only a supervisor can grant an extension and they certainly wouldn't do one with 3 months remaining on the lease.
I wasn't planning on officially requesting an extension today, I only wanted to know for sure it was an option. But then she said call back in November and MAYBE they will give a 1 or 2 month extension. I don't know what to do now as there's no way the new Maxima will be out by the time my lease ends.

What is it with the 2019 being on lock down? Damn it!!! I am getting impatient and want to see the changes. Nissan is showing other models that are 2019 but dead silent on the 2019 Maxima. Specifically the 2019 SR has me curious. Nissan seems to be pretty good at keeping things wrapped.

Your comment seems logical though, in the midwest, there are very few 18s on the lot anywhere. Its more like Nissan is ramping up the Altima since they will sell a boatload of them quickly. Maxima, not so much!
#1223
I think this is true. The lot near my house has had 10x '18 Maximas on their lot since January. The boss (the wife) says I can get a new car next month. Looking at an '18 SR Midnight that's been on the lot since January. Dealer's sale price is at $35,468 right now. Hoping the '19s are announced next month and the price drops some more.

On a slightly related note, I bought mine very lightly used and got a great deal on it. Didn't even have a full year on it. In a way I wouldn't have minded waiting for it to pick up an extra 5-10k miles (for even less money). In my experience new cars drive too stiff and it doesn't feel quite right till it gets broken in a bit more. I've noticed a significant improvement in mine since when I first bought it.

They want to get that out of the way first. Production is now in full swing at both assembly plants so give them a little time and you'll get what you want. Say, end of November.

Just thought I would let everyone know that in my area of the country the dealers just recevied several 2018 Maxima plat,sl, sv. Which have a production date of 9/12/2018.
So for now no idea what up with the 2019 Maxima. Spoke with my Saleperson the other day and he said they have no date or information as it relates to the 2019 Maxima.

Thanks for that Randy. A bit surprising and odd, based on what R1600Turbo posted on 8/26, above. By the way, how do you determine the production date? Is that on the window sticker somewhere?

Yes you can find the actual production date on the window sticker.
Lower right , below the Vin , EMS , MDL , OPT numbers

The thing that surprises me in the case being discussed here is that the only Maximas that would normally be coming down the assembly lines in late September would be vehicles for the NEXT model year. In other words, Nissan would normally end production of the 2018 Maxima in July of 2018, and begin production of 2019 Maxima in August. of 2018. For some reason, Nissan has continued to produce the 2018 Maxima well past the time production would normally have been switched over to the 2019 model.
As an example of what I am saying, my 2016 Platinum was assembled on August 20th of 2015, and arrived at my dealer the 10th of September 2015, and I bought it the 18th of September 2015. .
In the situation being discussed in this thread, either Nissan suddenly found a late need for more 2018 Maximas at dealerships, OR (more likely) found they were not quite ready to begin full production of the 2019 Maxima at the normal beginning time.
Both interesting and unusual. For me, this might indicate we would not begin to see 2019 Maximas before November, possibly late November at some dealers.

Not happening.

Thanks for the start date info R1600Turbo. And you are also right about the 'half wheel' A 'half wheel' makes sense in a plane, where the wheel is seldom moved more than an inch or two, but would be useless in a car, where we sometimes go 'lock-to-lock' when maneuvering in tight places. We sometimes gotta watch what those dealership guys tell us..
