2016 Maxima power steering
I bought a 7th gen at the beginning of 2015 and I did not even questioned the type of power steering it utilize until I search it afterwards. I noticed even though this generation started since 2009, Nissan kept on utilizing hydraulic assisted steering. I thank Nissan for that since the steering feedback is so nice and linear. I was a bit surprise that they did not switch over to electric assisted since everyone was switching over around 2005 to help in fuel economy.
Electric power steering can be done well if the company actually put lots of attention to the design and details for spirited driving like BMW, Audi and Mazda. If done well, you can't tell the differences easily.
For those interested in the 8th gen should really take it for a spin to see how Nissan implemented the new electric assisted power steering. As I have indicated, if done right then it would not matter. But if they just slapped it on sort of like their steering by wire on their Q50S. I took both the Q50 (hydraulic) and Q50S (electric steer by wire) out for a test drive, and it was night and day. I agreed with all the publications about the steer by wire system. Nissan is talking about going back to their old hydraulic system for 2016 Q50S until they can resolve the issue.
Just my 2 cent worth. Anyone, that gets the chance to drive it first, post your experience with the steering feedback on the new electric assisted system.
