That article was posted already around here somewhere.

And it's spreading all around the auto news network at the moment, but pretty much every article says the same thing and nothing more than we already know.

Per my dealer:

2,823 VIN's affected (certain dates of manufacturing).

Luckily mine was not one of them.

Going to be fascinating to see what the actual "issue" is.

eeeks, I hope nothing too serious, but as any new generation on first few months of production gonna have some quirks and issues, but technical such as the infotainment would be problematic and this is why I am waiting after six month to a year once they work out the kinks.

An interesting bit at the end of the article:

In its first month on sale, June, U.S. sales of the redesigned Maxima increased 14 percent to 4,037 from one year earlier.

That is impressive when we consider that most dealers had few 2016 Maximas to offer during June, and most folks (like me) are waiting in order to get the colors, models, etc, that they wanted. I would bet that, with most dealers now getting a good assortment of models and colors, over 6K will be sold in July. I don't think Nissan will have any trouble meeting the supposed 'target goal' of selling 70,000 2016 Maximas.

I am thankful this halt is limited to a set number of vehicles from a specific assembly period. That should not keep me from being able to buy as soon as I see the car I am looking for.

To get accurate numbers we should wait till all of the late 14 (really 15's) Maximas are sold off, that number is skewed by the heavily discounted remaining of those which will probably move a lot faster being that cheap.

Stopped in to check in on my 2016 Max for the CVT issue i posted about earlier. Nissan Rep told the Service Mgr. certain VIN are being brought in (not mine), for fuel tank issues. At least that's what we heard Today.

And what did they say about the CVT issue?

The article said 'sales of the redesigned Maxima', which means the sales of the 2014 Maxima in June were not included in the 4.037.

Had the number included the 7th gens, it would have been much higher, as dealers have been practically giving away 2014 Maximas for months now. The 2014s are a really great bargain for those who would be happy with the 2014. It is a very well-equipped vehicle, and I have liked its looks from day one.

Where do you find out if your vin is affected by the recall?
My dealer claimed no knowledge of any issues as of yesterday.

Angry 8th Generation 2016 Car Problem

I brought a SL Nissan Maxima from Edison Nissan in NJ in late June. I have experienced several problems. Trim around door handle fell off before I even left the lot with the new car. My moonroof was stuck in the open position on a very rainy day as I drove down the highway. Took in into the dealer to get it repaired. This is over 2 weeks ago. They called to say the part was in. Took the sunroof off, cannot get it back on and they want to keep the car for a month. I am furious. Will not explain why, just talking in circles.

Hopefully you get a working car back soon

It seems that someone goofed on a production run so I'm sure they will hold a few cars back but possibly release existing orders/deliveries with replacement cars then resume sales on previous builds once they've been fixed.

This sort of thing appears to happen a lot lately; most of the time the manufacturer will not even tell anyone what the issue was. I still remember everyone wondering about the Camaro production stop - all I have to say is, so long as this isn't an issue with your chassis welds and you don't watch your car split in half while negotiating a turn on a highway off-ramp, you will probably be OK LOL. (sorry, not a laughing matter, but I still can't get over GM's screwup with that)

I just sent an email to autonews.com, it will be interesting if they report anything. They have a Nissan reporter.

I wonder if my email sparked the story, it came out 2 days after I sent the email.

Not necessarily. These cars are tested for literally millions of miles before sale. You don't just release a new car knowing it has an issue after testing. This particular issue stems from either a supplier problem or production assembly. They'll find out what is causing it and take the appropriate steps to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I subscribe to the US D.O.T emails and this morning the email stated 'Your vehicle may be involved in a recall.' I have a 2009 Maxima registered at the site so I used the VIN lookup tool to search for my car but nothing was returned for my car. Either they messed up or there is a VIN specific recall on the 2016 models. However, I don't see anything listed in the 2016 model year for Nissan.

Anyone else subscribe to the US D.O.T. recall emails?

Dealers aren't happy

Just spoke to multiple dealers in Colorado. They have not been contacted or told anything on 2016 Maxima Issue (s). They all were getting upset over the lack of communications from Nissan. Nissan needs to communicate better with those with direct contact with the customers. I'm not feeling very comfortable with this.....sad.

Nothing to communicate if they don't have a solution.

Apparently they had a problem with some moldings and accidentally placed some undeserved text on the lighting and gave it the wrong transmission.

sorry, I jest- couldn't resist a George-esque troll

In all seriousness- it is complete BS that they can't be more transparent about this issue. I hope they get it all remedied, I do love the interior and the exterior has quickly grown on me. Very brutal looking car, in a good way.

Just spoke to a Nissan rep via their chat on Nissan USA. He ran my VIN via his resources and assured me there is no recall on my vehicle and this issue only affects cars that were on dealer lots that were not sold. Not sure how much I believe that but I guess will see. Still no real answers.

Does not make sense. It affects only cars that were not sold? That means that if they sell the cars on the lot the issues will magically disappear.

This sounds like he is not a war hero because he was captured, lol.

Or it could be that the cars on the lots (unsold) already got fixed and the cars sold will probably get a letter stating the issue and have them come in to get fixed. Sounds like Nissan is trying to limit the size of the recall (if there is one). The smaller the recall the better Nissan looks in the eye of the consumer.

How can the cars on the lot get fixed if the dealers themselves do not know what the issue is?

And here goes WasDmater, trying to find a rational explanation where none seems to make sense.

Maybe they need to pad the stickers a tad on the cars still on dealer lots? Too late to do that on ones already sold. That is meant as a joke, but the explanations for this applying only to cars still on dealer lots are effusive at best.

This has all the makings of an internet rumor turning into a bona fide PR disaster. On one hand, you still hear people taking delivery. And then this.

Nissan's Corporate Communications should be on top of this, and not acting like they used to work for Takata Corp.
