Rear Defroster

Is anyone else having a problem with theirs? I have 3 lines on the driver side that aren't working. I'm taking it to the dealership tomorrow to have them check it.

Yes. It actually shows what I think looks like a defect on those three lines. I'll try to attach a pic.

Did the dealer install the tint?? They may try to blame that for the failure...best of luck - let us know how it turns out!

No, I had the tint installed. I let the guy that checks you in look at this morning and he said it looks like a defect and they would have to have the entire back window replaced. Then I said the window was tinted and he tried to shift the blame. I have to get the tint removed before they will look at it because they said it voids the warranty.

Wasn't aware that tinting voided a warranty - I had the dealer install the tint and it came with a lifetime warranty - don't let them off the hook - I thought they might try to blame the tint but I have tinted virtually every car I have owned and have never had a warranty problem...good luck and please keep us posted - thanks!

I have never heard of window tinting voiding any part of any warranty. If that was the case, I don't think dealers would be tinting the windows on their cars before they even put them on the lot. I would certainly be questioning that and if they insist that is the case, I would call Nissan.

In this case a dealer installed tint would not void a warranty since they did the work. Aftermarket jobs are a whole different story. No different than replacing OE parts with aftermarket ones on any other area of the car.

Exactly.

Who knows, maybe when the tint shop was prepping the glass, if they used a razor, they could have very easily destroyed those defroster lines. Just speculating...

That would be my concern as well - and now that the tint has to be removed before the dealer will address it - there you go...

While I doubt it would be a costly fix, unless the dealer installs it, you own the problems they most certainly will hang on an outside tinting vendor. Is it really worth the trouble for reduced visibility?

If the dealer resolves that the third party tinter is to blame the only recourse is to go to them to replace the glass and retint - I had the dealer tint mine and the passenger side front and rear windows looked like they were tinted by someone that had no clue how to tint & trim - had to have them redone - it can happen - let us know how this gets resolved - thanks!

Well I had the tint removed from the back glass today. Took it to the dealership. They are replacing the entire back glass under warranty!
