LED headlight conversion

I recently purchased a 2016 maxima SL. A local body shop said I should not just change the bulbs because the LEDs would melt the housing. Is this correct? Are the housings for the headlights different in the SL and Plat.

Thanks

They would not melt the housing. They just wouldn't perform very well.

Stick to halogens or get a HID kit.

I think I decided to go with TRS Morimoto Elite H11 35W 5500K kit...would you recommend that one or 55W over 35W? Also, only other question I have before ordering is does installing this kit void my extended warranty in any way? I paid extra for 100k / 5 year package and I don't want to have to worry about taking my HIDs out every time I need to take it to the dealership between now and the time that warranty expires...

It really depends on the dealer but a "by the book" interpretation I'd bet that the warrantee would be in jeopardy. When you start messing with the electrical that could show up in other parts of the car computer as an error or problem. With that in mind, I do see bay vendors who have the Maxima LED housings for sale as reasonable prices. That way you could go with the Nissan Spec LEd's. That should keep you within wire loading specs and not trip the fuse/breakers. Keep us posted on what you do.

35W is definitely all you need.

I don't think it'll void any warranty unless it's headlight related (possibly?). I would call them and ask.

I will ask the dealer anonymously what their policy is regarding the warranty.

As for your comment regarding OEM LED housings, let me know if you have any specific links regarding those housings for reasonable prices. Directly from Nissan it's about $2200 for both left and right side...

Also, I posted this on another thread and never received a response:
I noticed all of these "slightly used" LED headlights on ebay have broken clips. See post here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nissan-Maxima-LED-Driver-Left-Side-Headlight-2016-16-oem-/331542475934?hash=item4d3178b49
- All mounting points are firmly intact except for two of the three top tabs (Pic 6 and 7)
So in these cases, are the actual LED ballast/bulbs/projection lenses able to be removed or swapped into my current low/high beam housing units? Or would something like this ebay post be completely useless and not able to be securely installed with broken clips/tabs? I wouldn't want to purchase an LED housing even at a great price such as this knowing that it wouldn't be 100% securely attached to the vehicle.

Seems this post died but I will try anyway.. car was vandalized and have to buy new headlights 2016 maxima. I have an SL. Can I replace my hologens with the leds that the sl and platinum have and not cause any electrical problems?

This is a recent thread that is addressing this question.

Have you run LED retrofit bulbs in a halogen housing?

I have heard, and experienced the opposite. I have LED bulbs plug and play, no old school HID ballast nonsense, and I can tell you it is about the BEST night time visibility that I have ever had. I have no light scatter issues and no one ever high beams me.
