Push Ignition from Running to Accessory Power

Hello - I previously had an Infiniti G35x and I was able to switch the vehicle from engine running to accessory power by double pressing the ignition button. Is there anyway to do this on the 2016 Maxima? I want to stop the vehicle from running but I want to still hear the radio and use power in the vehicle without having to power completely off and then on again. This interrupts life LOL :-)

Any feedback would be great!

I know on my 07 Altima if I quickly pressed it twice it let me do that, but from what I have experienced with my Base model Maxima it does not read the two presses it just shuts off.

Hmm 07 Altima did that. I tried it in my 10 Maxima and no luck.

Yeah to my knowledge that was the first generation of push button for Nissan and was the Altimas selling point.

I can see why this was not an option on the 7th gen Maxima, because the 7th gen OEM battery was around 550 Cold Cranking Amps, and those who ran any accessories without the engine running soon found their battery was too weak to start the car.

Nissan came out with a 700 Cold Cranking Amp battery available through their parts department around 2013 or so, and I replaced my OEM battery with that new more powerful one.

The 8th gen Maxima has a much better OEM battery than the 7th gen, and that is good, because there are lots more things sucking electricity on the 8th gen than on the 7th gen.

Light - I still have my 09 SV sport and I can quickly double press the button while it is running and it goes into acc mode. Just make sure your foot is not on the brake pedal.

Thanks for the correction. I do now remember reading how to do this in the manual that came with my '09. I think Maxgig (in his post above) may have put his foot on the brake pedal, and that prevented this double push from working with his 2010 Maxima.

Correction, I tried it again and yes it works. I wasn't holding the brake, I was just slow on the double push of the start/stop button. I'll definitely use this "new" feature as I provide the music at the b'ball court near my house. I broke down and bought an Optima redtop battery because my 700cca Nissan replacement battery was dead after only 20 mins and I needed a jump. With the Optima I've played my music for over an hour with no problem.

I must be an idiot.. I keep double pushing the button both with and without holding the brake, but the car shuts off no matter what. What am I missing?

If you are trying it on a 2016 Maxima it doesn't have that feature to my knowledge.

aw man, that sucks. I do have a 2016 maxima (just bought it last week). Not a huge deal, but would have been a nice feature to have for when getting gas or just wrapping up a call from the car in the parking lot. thanks for the quick response!

Yeah no worries I was kind of dissapointed as well. Because the boot up time takes forever.

So what do you do with the 8th gen cars to go from engine running to accessory power? Press the start button one time to shut off the engine, then press the start button once again and you should be in accessory power. That to me is a double press of the start button. That is how it works with the 7th gen cars. A fraction of a second between pushes, it is still two separate functions of the cars computer. How long of a delay do you have to wait to press the button a second time to get it into accessory power?

With the new gen everything resets no matter how quick or slow the presses are. In my old Altima I could press it quickly and it would just go straight to Acc no interruption in the music.

2 push to acessory only

Have we decided this feature is not available? is there a fix ever planned for this? Kind of ridiculous you can't kill the motor and lave system on for a few minutes. I appreciate saving battey life but jeez!

I just had a 2016 Rogue as a loner from my dealer and even on that the radio stays on after you shut off the vehicle!! I miss this so much, my last few cars have stayed on for a few minutes after and it becomes an appreciated feature!

I have a Dodge Ram 2010 model and the radio will stay on after you shut off the engine for the length of time you program it to then shut off after that time limit or whenever you open the door, whichever if first. Real nice feature. Really surprised that Nissan has not adapted this feature for the Maxima as many cars have it now.

Everybody's car does this. We were talking about when the car in running and you quickly double press the start button without foot on the brake and the car shuts off but stays in acc mode, so the radio or phone operations will not be interrupted.

Yeah, I noticed this right away when I went from '07 Altima to '17 Max.

It works

Turned the MAX off about to get out, decided to sit a while. Foot OFF the brake, push the start button one time. Push radio power button. It boots up and BOOM! We Have Music

Thanks for clarifying this as I never fully figured out the sequence when I just wanted the radio on.
