Nissan Connect Ideas

Is it possible to install the software to get the full set up of the Nissan connect app. I have an S model with Nav and rear view cam I know its not an SR or Platinum but I enjoy the car.

My reasoning behind this question is my friend has a BMW and he bought a laptop along with some software and he can add and remove programs to his car like install an aux cord selection feature if it is accessible. I know BMW also can install software like that but they charge an arm.

So I wonder if one can go into Nissan and ask if they can install the full set up or if one can find a way to get the software and install programs.

Nissan Connect in the 2016 is a joke.. So much potential and the only thing that works is:
Google search (if that even works)
Nothing else for the Connect works for the Maxima, even though they have been promising new things that might come down the road..

At this point, people are installing 2017 head units for the radio to get CARPLAY or 2018 units to try and get Android (equivalent).. Sorry to bring bad news.

Here is the thread that explains how owners of the 2016 are replacing the head unit.

https://maxima.org/forums/8th-genera...carplay-6.html

I am currently in the mist of doing this later in the week.

We await your report on where you sourced the head unit and how much effort required to install

Thanks. How would you rate the degree of difficulty and time involved? How much dough for the head unit?

I got the head unit for $249 on Ebay, you will see them there between 229 and 350.
but Go to the Link I gave above and see how others have done it.
There are 2 main types of Radio units With BOSE or without BOSE. You need to be care about what you order and that it has the correct product ID. It is explained in the link pass pages 3 or 4.

Looks awesome... but ??

I've been just as disappointed in Nissan as almost everyone else who has considered Android Auto (or the lack of it) integrated into my Max.

I see you have completed your install... can you offer some post-install insights such as:

Is the phone interface working with the voice controls, etc.?
Does the USB input still play music/books?
Text messaging works with the screen?
As an aside, can the new screen accept or play video (when not moving)?
Does the head unit interface with the driver panel display, or is that lost?
SiriusXM (yeah, I still use the radio for news)?
Can I side load new apps (like Spotify)?

Anything about general wins and/or losses with the new unit would ease the path for those of us behind you... and thanks for shaing!

Hi

I found an option to update head-unit software vie SD.

to access update menu, follow the instruction (found it in FSM):

then select confirmation, then system update.
my unit's version: 139

I want to test if we can update our units, and install android auto+apple carplay without replacing it.
Can someone with a newer version, that has android auto and apple carplay, backup his SD card and upload it for us? i will test it on my unit. it is non-Bose version. (you can see from the dusty unit, i have nothing to lose )
i think its useful to use a backup software to fully backup your SD card, like AOMEI Backupper, it is free software.

if i manage to update successfully, i will create a new topic, where everyone with a newer version can upload his SD files!

Looking forward to the file!
