Navigation Version -'13-14 Version?

Was looking through the random screens and stumbled upon the "Navigation Version" under one of the main navigation points of the infotainment system, "Info". Under that menu item it shows my system has "Map Version 13-14 Year".

What's everyone else seeing?

And your map version also says "13-14YEAR"?

Odd.

Same map version and program code as both of you. However my unit code is different and I have the "S" model.

The way I see it, Nissan owes us an updated map version and an update to our infotainment system for Apple CarPlay.

That's why I never buy a car with navigation as it is a costly option that usually comes with old software and very expensive to update. I use a TomTom and get free map updates 4 times a year for life.

I don't think I could put a hideous/bulky GPS on my beautiful new Maxima. I love the navigation system. I paid $100 to update my Infiniti QX56 system a few years ago so I assume it's not much more than that; hopefully.

Since I just bought my car I'll have to ask the dealer about it.

Nothing hideous/bulky about them, small as a cell phone. Don't really have to look at the screen as with spoken directions, so I don't mount it, just listen for the driving instruction. If I forget the gps I use cell phone with google maps as backup, works just as good. Built in Nav is good but I feel they are behind the curve technologically.

Hopefully we'll all get the update for Apple/Android Carplay and all of this will be a moot point.

But they did not have to pay for Nav as it comes standard across the line on the 8th gen... I do hear you on the TomTom or even using the GPS on your phone which gets free updates as well. the one that they have should have at least been the 14/15 year since the car came out in Summer of 15!

I must agree with MONTE that I see no real excuse that we did not get a more recent version in the 8th gen Maxima. There are service stations that change gasoline brands quite often, and motels can sometimes change chains, and even more often change brands within their chain. We made two long trips in one week recently (a niece of mine and a niece of my wife's both died just days apart), during which we put over 2,000 miles on the Maxima in eight days. We encountered several service stations that were carrying a different brand fuel than our navi told us, and two Comfort Suites (per the navi) turned out to be something else (one was a Quiality Inn and one was Clarion). This caused us some inconvenience.

If done as in the past, an update will run around $149, but will occasionally be on sale for $99. That is not a ton of money, but I feel it is more than we should have to pay. Especially since the '16 Maxima should have been delivered with a more recent version.

I'm pretty sure mine said '15 on it and I bought it in March of this year. I'll look and grab a picture after work today.

Definitely will be interested to see what yours says. Just remember to look through the main "Info" point on the home screen as I detailed in my first post.

Same info and I just took delivery. I am appalled that Nissan could not put updated software in a car costing 40K. There is better technology in a Honda Civic for **&*&*'s sake!!!!!!
Pure BS...................

weird, if you go to http://nissan.navigation.com you can get 2016 maps for model year 2014.
If you enter model year 2016, it says you already have latest maps.
I see that Nissan is now allowing you to get multi-year updates at discount, how nice of them.

I just called my dealer. Swinging in after work. I'll update this thread after leaving. Going to just swap SD cards. I'm going to press for one out of a '17. Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll load CarPlay too!

But probably not.

I've got an appointment on Thursday. I'll be taking it in to discuss the navigation issue and also an issue with the brakes slightly shaking at highway speeds when braking. Hopefully they'll update the SD card to a more current version. I'll keep you all posted once I return from the dealer.

This is why I don't understand why car GPS headunits are even a thing anymore. I understand how convenient a GPS is, but these things seem to age horribly. It's shocking to see that manufacturers not only charge you to update them, but neglect to include modern packages in new cars.

Did they not see that almost the entire demographic that'd be buying this car can use GPS on their phones for almost no charge at all? If they choose to include these devices in their cars, they should at least be up to date.

Stopped by my dealer last night. Confirmed I have an old SD card (duh). But also mentioned that the latest is the "15-16" version. So even the with 14-15 have outdated maps. They had to order me a new card. Will update once I have it.

Yes they do. The cost is $129.00 to update. That's why I'm hoping we get the Apple Carplay update so that way I can use the maps from my iPhone that update automatically.

I have 2009 and it sucked big time when 2010 model had new head unit and new features, including DVD player and user updateable maps.
I have little hope that 2016 will get CarPlay, even though from the looks of it, it would be perfectly capable of running it with new headunit software.
Good luck to those with high hopes

I had a 2009 as well, but my thoughts exactly.

I remain curious what the "official" answer will be. In my case they were adamant that they put in the map card and "program" the Nav system. They intentionally went through it without ever stopping at the version screen. I discovered that later at home. I just got their survey where anything less than a ten causes them pain so they fix my Nav or their survey scores are all three's........................................... .......

There appear to be two versions of the maps SD card -- one with part number 25920-4RA0A, and the other with part number 25920-4RA0B. Is the former for map version '13-'14, and the latter for map version '14-'15?

I just took out my SD card and it has 25920-4RA0A which is the 2013-2014 update.

I decided to check mine too. It's 25920-4RA0A, and the 2013-2014 maps version. Can anyone with the 2014-2015 maps version check the part number on their SD card?

I know theres also a card that starts with a 5. So, 25920-5xxxx. But my dealer said that's not even the latest. Seems like that is probably the 14-15. The latest per my dealer is 15-16. And that's the one ordered for me. Like I mentioned, I'll report back next week once I have it.

I hope I can be as convincing as you obviously were. Any tips for arguments or talking points to use, or who specifically to talk to?

Just took mine to the dealer today to address the Nav maps and pulsating brakes. I should have it back tomorrow and we'll see what they say. Bottom line is that they will be updating my maps come hell or high water at no charge to me.

I have the 14-15 year maps and I just bought my 2016 SL 2 weeks ago. I watched the dealer representative put the card in when I took the car for delivery. They may or may not ship the vehicles with the card already installed. I have a feeling It has to do with the dealer pushing out all of their old cards. Will wait for the 17 release and hope it has carplay enabled before I go through the hassle.
