Gas Station Fill-ups
Gas Station Fill-ups
Has anyone experienced the gasoline cut-off valve in the pump nozzle trigger prematurely when filling your tank? I typically fill-up when I have triggered the low fuel warning indicator.
This has happened on two occasions since I purchased my car. I have probably had 6 fill-ups since I drove the car off the lot. Sometimes it happens immediately after I start pumping gas. At other times, it happens when the tank is half full. I am not sure if this is an indication of a faulty indicator in the pump handle or higher than normal pressure in my fuel tank.

I'm not sure if it's related, but on a couple of Infinitis I've owned, I had to rotate the gas nozzle up while I pumped or itf would kick out soon after, or immediately. First time this happened I mentioned it to the gas station owner and he told me the same thing happens to his Infiniti and how to resolve the issue. It is erratic behavior though. I can go months without it happening. So it may be a shared issue.
TL; DR version: Try rotating nozzle up.

I seem to recall my 07 max was a pain in the @zz like that too. similar fix was a weird rotation, sometimes I had to hold it up so the gas ran down the nozzle pipe but could let the air out better. I think it was an issue with air not getting out of the tank quick enough.
Another possible factor is the fact gas pumps operate at different speeds. I have used several new pumps recently that send the fuel out at what I consider to be a very slow speed, even when I have the handle at full pressure. Naturally, with those pumps, the cutoff does not happen until the tank is full. By contrast, I sometimes fill up at pumps that send the fuel out at a very fast rate, and when the handle is pressed to full volume, the cutoff happens almost immediately because the car can't handle fuel coming that fast.
The cutoff is controlled by a sensor that is attached to the fillup pipe, and detects when the pipe is beginning to fill up. Such things as how fast the fuel is coming from the pump and how far the nozzle is into the car's fuel pipe and even the position the fillup nozzle is within the pipe entrance can be factors. Once the cutoff happens too early with my car, I restart the fuel flow at a slightly slower speed, and this solves the problem.

i have had this issue before as well...
not just that, the nozzle slipped off twice, spilled once, from the "locked-in position."
you know, when people leave the nozzle on the hole, and move away.
maybe it stopped cutting off early and slipping since i hold the nozzle on it until it clicks.
