LED fog lights

Just picked up my '17 Platinum a few days ago and I'm looking to replace the halogen fog lights with LED fogs. Anyone happen to know the color temp of the LED headlights? Searching around the forums, these two seem to be the most popular fogs:

Amazon Amazon
&
Amazon Amazon

That first link is 5000k and the second is 6000k. I can't figure out which one will color match my Platinum the most.

For my Platinum, which one do you guys suggest I should go with? If anyone has any other recommendations besides these two, I would love to hear them.

Oh those look nice! Anyone happen to know which will match the LED headlights closer between the 5000k and 6000k?

I own an SL, so I can't really comment on the color of the headlights. As Dab points out, the Diode Dynamics products are really good quality. The only fog they offer in 5000K is the XML2, which, IMHO, is a little bit pricey for me for fog lights. If you ask 20 people here on the forum, you will most likely get almost as many recommendations for different kits. If you're looking for 5000K, the diode dynamics is a good choice if money is not an issue. I recently installed these (the 5000K version)
http://www.vleds.com/shop-applicatio...11-6-xte2.html
I believe they are having a Memorial Day sale through 02-Jun worth 15% off.

If you do a search, you will find many threads on this, including my review on the VLEDS. If you want a close match to both your headlights and DRLs, then the 5000K may be what you're looking for.

Good luck in your search!!!

The only thing holding be back from Diode Dynamics is the price. I do like they have 1420 lumens vs vled's 800 lumens. How's the light output on your VLED?

I wouldn't get the JDM astar bulbs, alot of people had major moisture issues with them if you read these forums. I decided to try them and think I wouldn't have that issue but nope, one bad storm and my fog lights were flooded, dried them out swapped to oem seals like someone suggested and still had moisture issues. Had to swap back to something else.

The light output on the VLEDS are more than adequate. This thread has some photos of before and after.

I purchased the Diode Dynamics fog lights in the 5000k. Took about 3 weeks to get delivered as their site indicated. I installed them a couple weeks ago and love them. Although I do admit, they are pretty pricey but I'm hoping that parlays into not having any problems with them going forward. I guess I'll find out over time!

I believe it was a couple weeks. They actually had the ETA on the website which was spot on to when they arrived. I'd call them. They should be able to give you an idea. The guy there was really helpful.

GeorgesMax - your statement is not quite accurate. While there is a big difference in wattage of the 2 bulbs (H11 is 55W and H16 is 19W for a halogen bulb), the housing is the same. So they will fit interchangeably. Since LED bulbs use much less power, H11 bulbs can be used for fogs in the 8th gen. Most LED bulbs in this catagory are even sold as H11/H16 bulbs. So the issues people have with H11 bulbs in the fogs is not due to the category, but in the overall fit due to gasket leakage (assuming moisture is the issue).

I put in Phillips LEDS in my fog lights. They are not cheap $109 per pair x2 on Amazon. But the color matches the headlights (LEDS) and give me a nice white field of view. Just didn't want to put in cheapie bulbs since it is a PITA to change them.

Good reading

I posted this link in another thread, but thought it was appropriate to include here as well.

It's a very informative article about the dos and don'ts of fog lights. After reading this article, it helped me to decide on getting the VLEDS because they are adjustable in order to aim them properly for the correct light pattern, especially since the 8th Gen Max uses reflector housings for the fogs.
