Oil cooling system?
Oil cooling system?
My friend told me that getting an oil coolant system installed will extend the life of the engine, is this true? This is my first car and I want to try to make it last as well as give it some performance upgrades.
The oil coolant system that you have in your car is engineered for that engine to give it the best performance and heat protection. Why muck it up with another cooler to try and get that oil temp down. Oil works the best in an engine running at its designed hot operating temp. If you want to make the car last then the best advise I can give you is to perform all the required maintenance at the required intervals and you should get easily 300k miles. The engine in your car is outstanding with a great track record, bolting on additional things to make it run cooler or trying to get better performance will not extend the life of that engine, probably will shorten it.

I agree with Richard66 and compyelc4. Yep. There are times, vehicles and situations where adding an oil cooler could make a difference, but, in my opinion, the Maxima is not such a situation. It comes with a tested and validated system designed to keep the oil at the temp best suited for the situation.
I simply follow all maintenance recommended by Nissan, and have driven several Maximas well over 200K miles, and the engines were still in perfect condition when I let them go.

Cooler oil can be a detriment especially if you live in colder climates. The engine needs a certain temp to get great oil flow. This is a sweet engine just the way it sits from the factory! Now then if you are trying to tow something, it might help in the southern climates. I'd still wonder why anyone would tow anything with the CVT though.
