Wow I hope mine doesn't get like that. Maybe they'll cover it under warranty? I would be pissed if that happened to mine especially being so new.

Never bought the extended warranty. Thought I would sell this car before 36k but ended up liking it alot. Currently have 36500 miles. I doub they would cover wear and tear anyways . I guess ill have to ask them what to do because its an eyesore. Car is garge kept too, no idea why its wearing so fast

That really sucks. Damn and now I just realized I have to go through my paperwork and see if I got the extended warranty on mine as well. I'm just under 12k on mine and when I bought it I was paying cash and buying the car under a friend's name and was in a rush to get out of there and totally wasn't thinking about that at the time. Maybe ask if you can get it extended especially since you are barely even over the mileage limit.

Thats actually perfect, wonder how much the dealer would charge me for the swap. I thought the steering wheels would be wayyyy more expensive than that

If you are "wonder(ing) how much the dealer would charge me for the swap?"...a thought just crossed my mind.

Why don't you call or stop in an authorized Nissan dealer and ask that very question?

1st I would approach your dealer about replacing the current wheel under warranty. There is some defect in yours appearing this soon @ 36.5K miles

Words of caution, just in case you want swap to SR steering wheel, it has blue stitching so it will not match with the rest of your interior.

That wheel is all messed up because your gripping it too tightly, you got to learn to chill, take it easy, and lay off the coffee

After looking at the photos I had to go out and check out the steering wheel on my '17 Platinum. I only have 10k miles on it and it has no wear. I then went and looked at the steering wheel on our '11 Murano with over 100k miles and it has no wear. Sounds like you need to maybe change to decaf. What do you use to clean the wheel? Maybe the product you use is drying out the leather and making it shed.

Meguiars leather cleaner, Ive only applied it twice in the past 2 years, every 15k. so hardly ever needed to use anything. I'll probably live with it for a while unless it starts getting worse. Cost me around 300$ to replace it with install which isnt too bad . Whenever it needed to be cleaned i just used a slightly damp microfiber. my '14 maxima never had any wear either. very strange

I can't believe you are going to replace the entire steering wheel. Have you tried a good seat cover place to see if they have a leather dye/sealer-filler that they can mix up to match your wheel shade? You might be surprised what a dealer like that can do.

Regarding that early wear, well that seems kind of not right. The only time I've seen early wear like that is on a sports car driven on a road course several times. Driving gloves on a road course might cause that leather coating to wear off, especially if exposed to UV a lot.

Good luck with that. I would be ticked for sure. Now I'm gonna be **** about mine. Thanks.

PS- Hey, where did that little red frowny face at the very top of my post come from?? Can't edit it out.

I will try look for a place that can repair it, dealer won't for sure. I live in hawaii and its really hard to find any decent places. Ive been looking for a month to get my diffuser and splitter installed and painted but I can't find a single shop that does that kind of work.

I have an idea for you. At around 15K i had my steering wheel upholstered at a local shop with alcantara (about $100). My wheel didn't wear but i decided that it give a cool look and feel to the steering wheel which it did. The steering wheel feels meatier and is holding up great till now at 30K+. Just wanted to toss the idea

Great idea! I will look into it! I'll call some shops tomorrow. I prefer alcantara anyways

Where does one get this carbon fiber wheel? & assuming heated wheel is not a thing when you do this?

Not necessarily. The carbon fiber part is an overlay so the heated feature will work, just not as prevalent.

steering wheel leather wear
Having driven for a long time (though not as long as lightonthehill) and having seen many steering wheels of all types, from hard plastic to leather, get messed up from uv, rings, and whatnot, one of the first things I purchase when I buy a new car is a steering wheel cover. A couple of years ago I found a nice D shaped black leather cover with blue stitching that complemented the blue interior stitching and the blue exterior. It's showing wear now, but at <$30 original cost, it won't kill me to replace it and the steering wheel has essentially no wear. Just something to consider.

Hawaii you say? Now we're gettin' somewhere. I'll bet this problem is caused by the slightly acidic property of pineapple juice! Wash your hands more often.

The carbon fiber wheel in this thread looks great, but it’s a bit much for me, but I welcome the idea of some better grips.

I stumbled across this product as I am not overly satisfied with the “skinny” wheel in my SL whereas the one in our 7th gen actually had some thickness to it and felt great in your hands. Our platinum is a little better with the upgraded leather. It looks like a cover but it is adhered to the wheel and manually sewed on. Not really convinced with putting adhesive tape on the wheel if it ever needed to be removed, and adding more layers makes the heating function less effective.

I'm also looking at getting this, but am put off by the adhesive. My car is a lease, and I'm not sure IF the adhesive will damage the leather underneath or just be sticky that I can clean off.. If you try this and like it, let me know! I also just wanted a little bit thicker wheel to give a better grip, and also the leather on the S doesn't feel that good (it's not smooth and too grainy)

Look up AGD Customs, but I gotta tell you, there are numerous BBB complaints about non-delivery and non-communication with buyers. Beware.
