How to lock the key in the car?

It used to come in handy for me to park, leave they key under the mat and lock it. Some other family member who had a key would come get it. Now with the keyless start, which I love, is there any way to do this anymore?
I don't believe the door will lock while the key is in the car, right? And even if I could lock it, it someone broke in, even if they didn't know where the key was, if they happened to try and start the car it would start. Anyone know a workaround this problem? Thanks, Dave

Why would you need to leave the key for someone who has a key?

I once left my spare key in the jacket at the backseat. I drove like that for a week. I think if you place it in the center or in the back it will work. I gotta test it.

No way...My Altima will not let me lock my doors with the keys in the trunk or back seat. It knows the keys are in the car. I suppose if you remove the battery you could accomplish it.

If you have two key fobs you can lock one in the car if you lock the car with the other fob. You won't be able to use remote start if one of the fobs is in the car though. Pretty sure you can't lock the key fob in the car if it's the only fob. I do this all the time with my Pathfinder. My wife and I both have keys so when we go out together she leaves hers in the car

So if someone breaks into your car they can just drive off with it? I don't see the reasoning here.

I purchased a spare fob for my '17 Platinum and keep it in the trunk. I have it wrapped with aluminum foil and the vehicle does not know it is there. I have a spare el-cheapo key hidden under the vehicle so I can get into the car and retrieve the fob from the trunk. I used to keep it stored without a battery but went ahead and installed a battery and wrapped it with foil.

Yuuup. We do it all the time. Wife leaves her purse (with her key) in the car and I can either lock it with the button on the door handle or using the button on the fob,

I can lock the key inside if I use the Nissan Connect app. Leave the key inside and lock it with your phone...

One more option. Remove the battery from the fob and you can leave it in the console, or anywhere. Have a key made at wally world, or anywhere, and give it to whomever you want access to the car. You can lock and unlock the doors with the key and use the fob to push the start button to start the car. Problem solved.

i was running late to go to work and when i parked my 2017 max i could not find my key. searched the whole inside the car.turns out i left it on the roof and took off . the only thing that saved me was the the gap at the bottom of the rear windshield into the trunk. it was wedged in. during that time i was able to turn the car off and on but could not lock it.

If you want to lock an active fob in your car without it being sensed by the vehicle, just wrap it in a small piece of tinfoil which will block all signals from escaping. It acts like a reverse Faraday cage . . . electronically speaking.
