Was watching the youtubes and saw this...

Is this for real? I know there's a 5.0 liter and turbo variant... but the Max should have easily beat this one.

There's the big difference then, right there! Of course, all other factors being equal, which they might not be: driver launch reflex, tire slippage, track condition, etc.

All things considering. The Maxima put up a decent fight despite less torque. I wish they would do the new Toyota Camry V6 vs the Maxima. Really curious how the Maxima would do.

Avalon beats the G80?

Yet a Maxima vs Avalon the Maxima wins in their video.

RWD on the G80 also. That could account for a stronger takeoff...

Supposedly the Max is faster, see these comparisons...

http://autotk.com/0-60-times/genesis/g80/

http://autotk.com/0-60-times/nissan/maxima/

I've seen similar numbers on Car & Driver, although you have to read around a bit to get the stats for the 3.8.
Supposedly the video is comparing equal models, but I dunno bout that

I would think a front drive car should have some drivetrain efficiencys due to the short length of the front drive shafts vs a rear drive which has right angle down a long drive shaft for the engine power to work thru. If anything I often wish for more traction from a standing start on the Max

The Avalon in this video has 268 HP, the Maxima 300. Makes sense. A 2019 Maxima vs 2019 Avalon comparison would make much more sense, HP almost the same (+1 for the Avalon).

Excellent point! Totally for got that was the older Avalon and not the newer one with more hp.

As a car (or anything) accelerates, the weight is shifted back. Think about how you're pushed back in the seat. In a RWD car there's a huge advantage to having that weight-shift load the rear tires. This why drag cars are always RWD.

But in a race in Reverse, the Max. should win, right? :-)

All that goes out the window if you race in the snow.....

One major thing to note here, the Max in the video against the G80 is a different car than the one against the Avalon, and different cars may have some variability in performance. Since these three cars are so close in acceleration in general, that alone could be enough to explain why the G80 lost (or basically tied) the Avalon, but the Maxima easily beat the Avalon and lost to the G80.

The Maxima should not be losing to a base G80 under any circumstances. The G80 is a MUCH heavier car and the 0-60's are not that close.

Stoplight race police cars. I guarantee you they will be following your tail lights the whole way. ;-)

The guy in the G80 probably won by as little as he did, in part because the bill of his cap was reversed. Less resistance=more streamlined. This is a very old drag racing trick. :-)
