Android Auto problems

Anybody else having problems with Android Auto? It worked well for a while in my 2018 Max, then all of a sudden started crashing randomly and frequently. I replaced the USB cable (no improvement) and I tried two phones with it (one Samsung Galaxy Note 9, one Samsung Galaxy 9) - same outcome. On both phones the app is up to date.

Any suggestions?

Had similar problems with my Galaxy S8+ (Verizon). Uninstalled/reinstalled app, cleared cache, cables, you name it. Have a Galaxy S10+ and no problems (since June). Don't like updated Android Auto vs. new Apple CarPlay. Just my two cents.

Haven't had any issues. Mines worked perfectly since I got my 18 back in February.

The new aa could be a little better. I wish you could arrange the apps how you want in the app screen. I find myself having to scroll through all the apps pretty often. Other than that I like it better than the old version. Hopefully they update it a little more. It was due for a massive update

Well I can't use Apple CarPlay, because my two phones are Samsungs, so that's a problem.

Well OK, it sounds like it's a phone problem, although for the life of me I don't understand why you need to have the latest model in order for this app to work. Both my S9's are less than a year old, and fully updated. I guess all I can hope is for someone to fix the software, because I really can't use this app anymore, and it's too bad because I really like it [when it works].

I recommend looking through the r/AndroidAuto Reddit threads. There may be others that have a similar problem to you and have solutions. I know for a fact that there are members of that Reddit that have S9s and use AA in their cars. Not necessarily Maxima owners, but AA users.

Thanks, I just checked. It appears it's a widespread problem after the latest app update- it's not me, my phones or my car. No clear fixes yet. I guess I'll just have to wait for the next app update and hope the update actually fixes the issue. This really sucks, because I really love the app, I was going to use it every day. When it worked.

Have you tried putting your phone in safe mode to rule out any download app then connect to android auto?

Richard, I don't know what "safe mode" means for a smartphone (do you mean ... airplane mode??). And I don't understand what you mean by "to rule out any download app". Could you please explain? Thanks.

Nope, airplane mode is different. Safe mode is a diagnostic phone boot up to find out if any downloaded apps on your phone might be giving your phone problems. What safe mode does when it boots up is only load on the apps that your phone came with when it was brand new. If you boot your phone into safe mode and your android auto works like its should then more than likely one of the download apps you put on your phone is running in conflict with android auto. You just have to figure out what that app is and uninstall it.

As for booting into safe mode, google "boot into safe mode Samsung S9" (or the phone model you have) and follow the instructions, it's easy.

OK, so safe mode boot same as safe mode for computers -- didn't know that existed for smartphones also.

Thanks!

I had a similar problem in my 2019 Outback with AA, it was the phone. I had 2 connections (Connected cars in AA settings on your phone) set up somehow for the same car, it was conflicting and dropping the AA connection seemingly at random.
Was ready to punch out the dashboard screen then figured it out, all good now
