Red face Cruise control 'hunts' too much

I recently purchased a 2018 Maxima Platinum. The ICC (Intelligent Cruise Control) 'hunts' and it is pretty annoying. I'm pretty sure I understand how it works. It slows down for cars in front of me, as it should, and the three distance settings work properly. Still, the car hunts even when there is no other traffic around. Any one note this problem or have a comment on an approach to a fix? I traded a 2010 Maxima on this car. I think I liked the old one better.

Bill,

I have a 2019 Platinum that does this as well. What brought this to light was that I had recently rented a Camry with ICC and it was smooth as silk! On the Maxima ICC, it Almost feels like the brakes are tapping on when you go down a less than 1% incline with cruise engaged. With the 19 (not sure about the 18) I can actually overide the ICC cruise and engage the cruise in the "dumb" mode with none of this hunting nonsense. On the open road, it is far smoother . I did not have that option on my earlier 2016 Platinum.

Is there a secret handshake to get into this 'dumb' cruise control mode? Could you explain how you actually do that? Many thanks...

In my 2018 manual, that page shows how to operate standard cruise control, not how to operate ICC as standard cruise control.

According to a 2019 manual I have, momentarily pressing the cruise control ON switch enables ICC mode. Press and hold the ON switch for more than 1.5 seconds enables the standard mode. This does not appear to work on my 2018.

@robtroxel have you had the software updated?
Mine appears better after the update.
Lane mitigation, as well.
CarPlay phone "scratchiness" - notsomuch.

Had mine in for its 1st 5000 mile service and no "Update" was offered. Guess I should find out what this entails. Car was built in February of 2019.
Thanks for the input

My dealer didn't have any software updates (like master software update across the whole car + infotainment), plugged into Nissan's dealer <> factory system, found a new update, installed it across my car.
Maybe about a month ago.
