Winshield distortion - help!!

Hey Guys,
I just bought a 2017 Nissan Maxima only 5 days ago and I cannot drive it at all without feeling nauseous and sick for about 1-3 hours afterwards. I didn't notice anything on the test drive but after the first day I noticed I was feeling sick while and after driving and my eyes were just feeling funny and strained (causing the sick feeling). I finally realized it was the windshield and glass making me sick. There is distortion across the bottom 4-5" of the windshield on the drivers side and I'm pretty sure the passenger side as well. There also seems to be something messing up my eyes in my direct field of view looking out onto the road and also stretching inwards from the front pillars.

While driving if I concentrate on the lines on the road, you can noticeably see them go from straight to curving upwards (optically/distorting) as they run past the lower portion of the winshield as I mentioned above. I called a professional auto glass repair shop who is very knowledgeable and they said distortion in windshields is common and a sign of poor quality windshields. They then went on to tell me the Vitro Branded windshields which is the one that installed in my 17' Maxima are poor quality. I've also read online on quite a few places that there really should be no distortion at all in a windshield and distortion is indicative of poor manufacturing and defective parts.

QUESTIONS:
1) Has anyone else found the windshield in the 16' to current 8th generation Maxima to be causing nausea and distorted views....I literally can't drive without feeling sick.
2) I took a look around the car and the Windshield, Driver and Passenger front and back seat windows are "Vitro Brand", but the rear glass is made by "Carlex" and the small rear seat windows are made by "PGW". My thoughts would be that they would all be the same manufacturer.

I'm trying to get the dealership or Nissan Canada to pay for a new windshield as it's making me sick and it's the belief of the Autoglass pro's that its a bad windshield.

I haven't been able to find anything online regarding the Maxima and windshield issues. It's really making me sick and now I'm stuck with a car that make me want to puke every day.

Any infö would help..I need some research before I talk to the dealership on Friday.

It does sound like a cheap replacement.

My 07 Frontier has Carlex glass.

I dont believe it's a replacement. It has the Nissan stamp on it. Seems like its OEM. If it was a replacement i don't think it would have the Nissan stamp.

Anyone else have any input...it's really upsetting that a car I've had for 5 days is causing me to feel sick...especially when you have to drive that car every day and feel like this every day. Not sure what to do...

I would take a look at the cars of your dealership and compare those with what you have. Also does anyone else have the same problem if they sit in the drivers seat?

The dealer will just tell me it's normal. That's the way they all are. They wont want to be on the hook for anything. Either way, regardless of whether another car has the same issue, i'ts making me physically sick to my stomach and giving me headaches after having the car for 6 days at this point. This has not happened to me in any other car int he 18 years i've been driving. Am I to keep a car that makes me nausious every day...I dont know what to do...sell the car and lose 3k in days???

If your car is out of warranty the dealer will not help you cost free. I meant compare your glass to what is shown on the lot. This will give you information if the windshield was replaced by cheap glass or a bad OEM glass that made it through quality inspection. Anyway if your car is out of warranty you have two choices, sell the car or replace the glass. If you like your car then replacing the glass is the cheaper option. Side question - was this problem brought up with the salesman during your test drive?

I have a very small spot in the lower middle part of my windshield (2018) which I only notice when turning right. There is significant distortion when looking through this spot. So you are not alone with this issue. Yours sounds much worse than mine. Good luck.

No i never noticed it during the test drive because it was only a couple minutes of driving, plus the fact that you're distracted with how the car feels, what the interior looks like etc....wasn't paying full attention to something you're not expecting...

Ya, it's good to know that others are experiencing the same thing....can you do me a favor? Look at the glass and see what manufacturer is under the NISSAN stamp on the glass...could be Vitro...Carlex...PGW....Could you do this?? I'd be untested to see if it's the same Vitro glass i have.

If your windshield suffered damage with a rock chip, then you could get it replaced through your insurance,
what province do you live in?

Sorry to hear about this not so uncommon issue but the fix is straight forward. Replace the Windshield but have the new W/S inspected from all angles before it goes in.

Report back on this outcome.

I don't have this issue (thankfully) on two Maximas, but DID have this issue on a 2014 Acura MDX (new/from Alabama factory - which is a quality shut show).
QUESTION @Danzel777 - do you wear glasses?

I think it’s at the bottom right? I don’t remember.
