Turbos?

New here but I have a 2019 Maxima SR. My last was a 16 Maxima. When I got the SR I looked at the Infiniti Red Sport 400, due to its similarity to the Maxima but 100 extra horse due to the turbo. I'm curious as to how difficult it is to put a little turbo on mine and what all is involved. If anyone has knowledge on this, I'd appreciate it

The CVT can't handle the added performance sorry wrong car for that. Any more added torque CVT goes bye bye. The CVT is for smooth delivery for 300 ponies only. I love it for daily driving its just not a real car enthusiast performance car.

Its very simple... is has a CVT.. Do research on this transmission , once you fully understand how it works,
You will never need to ask if you can put a turbo, blower, or any power adder.

The 8th gen Maxima is a great platform unless you have the speed bug. The CVT is our gift and our curse.

My though too, it's an amazing design, it just doesn't withstand any abuse.

Should have bought the Q red sport. Tons of aftermarket support.

Enjoy your grocery getter for what it is.

I wish they would of gave the SR some extra ponies at least like they did in the 1999 SE Limited. I do love how the SR handles.

jdm 4 speeds are cheap, reliable and will bolt on to the engine with minor mods to the ecu and wiring. after that is taken care of, go ham on boost till your motor explodes, coz the trans will not.

Please explain. I'm intrigued.
1. What do you consider a "minor mod" to the wiring?
2. Please give example of mfg. and part no. for this relatively easy install of 4-sp manual trans. to 8th Gen Max engine.
3. Where does one get an adapter plate for 4-sp to our engine?
4. Please quote valid reference, just one, where our motors will "explode" before the CVT bows out when we go "ham on boost". I assume you mean simply "lead footing" it whenever and whereever?

The trans in question is the trans used in j31 teana/cefiro with the vq23de motors. the minor wiring mod = power, ground and required wires from ecu to be spliced into the tcu of the 4 speed after referring to the tcu and ecu wiring diagram to splice in the required signal wires. 8th gen maxima vq35de has the exact same bellhousing bolt pattern as the 4 speed. I have swapped in a 4 speed into a 6th gen, and yes, I did check the 8th gen bolt pattern and its the same, so no adapter plate required. you will need 4 speed trans mount though. and when I said your motor would explode but your trans wouldn't, I was implying that the 4 speed is a very strong transmission reliably capable of 400 horse at the wheels, and your stock motor would go before the trans did when boosted. I think you misunderstood what I said bc I completely agree that the cvt will fail with more power which is why I myself have swapped the cvt for the 4 speed on my 6th gen.
btw, I'm pretty sure you have to remap the ecu to ignore trans codes, or you might be in limp mode. cheers.

Also, if you want a complete plug n play solution, get a 7th gen ecu, key, ignition barrell (immu reciever) and bcm. get a j31 teana/cefiro 2.3 v6 wiring harness for the engine and trans and tcu and trans mount, and get a 7th gen max vq35de. put all that together and you have a 4 speed with no mods required but it's gonna cost you and you probably won't have a working dash (unless you splice in the wires from the ecu to the dash).
