Cvt mileage expectation
Cvt mileage expectation
Just wondering if I can expect the same lifetime on my 2020 Maxima transmission as what I used to get on a regular automatic.
this is my first CVT and I used to mile out regular transmissions in the 200000 to 300000 mile range.
What are you people getting out of your Cvt transmissions?

Totally depends on your driving habits. Jackrabbit starts equals a short CVT life. If you bought the car new and drive it moderately it will last much longer. Best of
luck.
I regularly get 32+ MPG on the interstate and 25 in-town driving.all on regular gas.
luck.

That is really not an answer. Try again!

The 8th gen is still pretty early for there to be a lot of super high mileage examples. You'd need fringe cases of people driving them around for their jobs or something to get 250k miles in already. Not only that but Maxima don't sell like 200k units per year like an Altima or a Camry or something so your sample size is already small to begin with.
If you search the forums, there's a few 8th gen owners with 150k+ miles on their Maxima. I'm at 95k now and I haven't felt anything amiss. I don't baby mine either but I do the CVT fluid every 30k.
There's a lot of 7th gen Maxima owners on this forum that have higher miles on theirs.
If you're super curious, you could go on some used car sites and search for highest mileage 8th gen Maximas for sale then try looking at the Carfax reports for CVT replacements or something.

I have been accused of being too gentle. So I am expecting long life and plan to change CVT oil around 30k.
thanks for your reply!

Given what you say about being gentile, I would think you are a high mileage candidate. Still, you have not mentioned if the car you have or are getting is a used one? If used - anything could have happened that may ultimately shorten that longevity you are seeking. In order to establish a baseline, I'd get the CVT serviced (Including the internal filter) and ask the dealer to check for any CVT codes which often do not show as a dash warning light.
All four of my CVT equipped Maximas (2009, 2011, 2016, current 2019) have been great - though I traded the earlier ones out at around 50000 miles.

Sorry I never mentioned this . I bought my 2020 Maxima last June. It was in the showroom brand new. Got a very good deal as it had not sold. Fast forward to today it has 3600 miles I really don't drive much and have not changed the oil yet but expect to do it next week.
I traded in my 10 Maxima SV with 224,000 miles on it. It was a problem free CVT that i changed the CVT fluid every 90-100,000 miles. I currently have a 19 Maxima SV with 110,000 miles on it that i just changed the CVT fluid at about 87,000 miles. This vehicle has been problem free as well.

Yes. I replaced the spark plugs at 105k and 210k. I followed the owners manual for all my maintenance. Most of my maintenance is done at Nissan.
I bought my ‘16 Max a few months ago with 90k. Only put 1k on it so far. First thing I did was CVT fluid exchange at the local Nissan dealer. I plan on in the next 10k to do Coolant flush and spark plugs, besides regular oil changes. Oh, and I did front and rear brake job due to clicking noise going down the road. Keeping my fingers crossed on the CVT and prefer I could get Sport mode enabled by default, but that is just a another button press after start.

how much they gave you on trade?
(forum response)
my 11, got 260k miles. No Jack rBitin, changed juice every 30k miles.
have transplanted Tran w 89k….
I traded it in in February of 2019 and got either $1,500 or $1,800. It was in excellent shape but too much mileage for the Toyota dealership to want to sell on it's lot.
