Cost of control arm replacement?

Hello,

My 2016 Maxima SL needs new front control arms.

Parts, labor, and tax total cost at my dealer here in New Jersey is $1700.

I haven't used an indie repair shop since pre-Covid and my dealer prices then were better than the local place.

Does any one have an idea if $1700 is a fair price for this job?

Thanks!!

Ed

That’s the stealership OEM costs, plus paying the water bill …..

My DIY runs under $300 both sides. Rite tools and some time.

if closer, I would have send invite …

Thanks, Les7311.

I guess I'll have to bite the money bullet.

Most of my life I had a reputable indie shop to take care of my cars. Never used a dealership. However, as time went on, the indie's were edged out by chains and I found several of the shops left to be unreliable.

Plus, the cars got too complicated for a non-expert like me to work on.

Sigh...

peep at this. Don’t let the impact gun scare you… simple breaker bar and good socket set….

then you have this for option…. Am not responsible for vendor items, promotions, benefits, etc….

We hit a pole in our other car, and had the whole front control arm/whatever replaced.

This seems REALLY high. I think it was maybe $500-600 for this specific work, as part of a bigger job.

Thanks for the video. However, I've got no indoor space where I can work on the car and the outdoor heat is prohibitive. Then there's my having not worked on a car for years. Thanks again.

I'm going to do some more research and then discuss with the dealer shop. Thanks!

The Nissan EM control arms cost $434 a piece or $870 plus tax = over $900.

I have tried to buy the control arms on Ebay from different vendors at a lower price than OEM parts, yet it seems to me they all sell defected parts, one of the bushings (in the attached one picture for example) does not match the original part, it seems like a manufacturing defect. Let me know if you had similar issue or do you know if this is defect or maybe different engineering design (it does not match the pictures they show on Ebay). Cost - $140 for both control arms + estimated labor is $170-200 cash in total (my mechanic told me)

[QUOTE=Les7311;9254911]

Thank you Les7311, I bought couple sets of these control arms from different manufacturers (one from DETROITAXLE and the other one from BFO), both of them have the same issue with one of the bushings covered halfway by the metal ring.
DETROITAXLE gives 10-year warranty, however, I am still waiting for reply from them regarding the issue. Ratings for both of them and comments look good, but still that bushing does not match the pictures they provided nor the original Nissan part.
I thought that maybe it is a new engineering design, but I started to doubt that...I wonder if anyone has seen those defective bushings and installed them on their vehicle and how was the quality of ride (did it fix vibrations at higher speeds?).

Looks like this part fits both the current-gen Maxima and PRIOR-gen Altima.

Maybe the Altima part changed, and that's the mix-up?
