2017 Maxima SL Cruise Control keeps deactivating

Has anyone else had this problem? I’ve been searching everywhere and I can’t find anything. My cruise control will turn on and engage, but the radar will think there is a car in front of me and it will flash orange and start automatically braking. Sometimes it does it as soon as I set my speed, sometimes it’ll wait a few minutes. I’ve had the car for a little over a month now, and it has had the front bumper replaced at least once. Not while i’ve owned it, but from previous owners because of wrecks. It was doing the same thing a little while after I bought it, but I had just kicked the front left little circle sensor on the front bumper a few times and it never gave me any problems again until I took it through the car wash a few days ago. Even when there’s no traffic or cars in front of me at all, it’ll still think there’s a car there and it’ll start braking. It’s extremely frustrating and I’d appreciate some help. Dealership wants $170 just to diagnose.

I have a similar issue. Previous owner removed the front bumper.

there’s a thread that speaks to the sensor beneath the bumper is mal-aligned and requires seating properly.

I am planning a DIY but won’t until the weather changes for the best

hold the cruise button in on position for at least 5 seconds and this should reset the sensor code on the dash

I’ve tried that and it doesn’t do anything. There’s no error code or anything like that, and the front radar obstruction light doesn’t come on when this happens. It just pops up the car symbol next to my cruise control speed and it flashes orange and starts braking automatically.

Something in the front sensor.

mine doesn’t auto brake, but disable my cruise control ( only)

saw another thread where the front bumper was painted too thick/heavy to cause radar obstructions

hope someone chime in with a fix

So is it the front sensor on the bumper? Or the radar? Or does the sensor act as both?

I understand the radar is placed inside the bumper, so the bumper removal is recommended
