K-Sport Coilovers Talk
Can u guys provide measurements from the fender to the CENTER of the wheel? Tires make a huge difference in that measurement and make it almost useless... I am at about 12.5 in front and 13-13.5 in the back.
I think most of us are fortunate (if we've already changed the stock components once) to tolerate a 2" ish drop and be alright for a good while. but I'm sure we'll be changing control arms or bushings sooner than we did with the oem counterparts on stock springs.
still worth every moment...
still worth every moment...

just replaced my driver halfshaft due to a busted cv boot. passenger side is still good though. (KNOCK ON WOOD)

but now, well i actually noticed for a while on the front passenger side tire, theres a humming noise when driving. sounds like its slightly grinding on something. prob the stupid wheel bearing...
So with new from chillin that Ksport has been "repairing more Teins and JICs lately than Ksports", does this mean that Ksport struts will work with Tein and JIC hardware, and that Tein and JIC struts will fit on Ksport hardware?
Who wants to try?
Who wants to try?
I dont know, I talked to the guy for like 20 minutes and didnt really get much of an answer about anything except that they changed the oil seal "design" last october...as far as why they are repairing other brands I have no idea. How honest or truthful the guy that I was talking to was...I dont know that either...Its a shame you spend hard earned money on these companies and you cant even trust their fkin word.
I was trying to get a straight answer about where the dampeners are made and he said that they buy certain parts of the dampeners from other companies but the strut itself is ksport original/their own....I'm willing to bet there is SOMETHING out there thats interchangeable.but we'd want to make sure the spring rates were similar too.

Tein COs

JIC COs
this pic is of the 5th gen variety but still pretty close

K sports

They all look really similar...I would not be surprised if they had parts that are interchangeable...

I dont think the Teins will work, just from the looks. Not sure, but it looks like the lower mounts are stationary on the strut, unlike Ksports that are threaded.
However, the JICs look similar, and according to their website, (linky) theyre struts are universal. If someone around me has JIC or has a spare blown damper, Id be willing to test it.

Hmmffff....and JIC replacement struts are 2x Ksports....
Anyhow, on with [maybe] progress. I talked to the Ksport people on aim, and they said that by 'repair' the JIC/teins, they are only replacing the seal and re-oiling them, not replacing the strut. I asked if you could put a Ksport strut in, and he asked for the diameter of the threaded body of the JIC set, and the thread pitch. I found the pitch, it is M54-P2. Anyone know the diameter?

Alright so i had my Ksports for over a year now. I had the usually spring perches getting loose, but now that i got these HP Evo Rims my front right side has been making clunk noises (only that side) not like the springs where there not tight but like something is hitting or the rim is going to fall off.. Any ideas ??
Thanks in advance .

My K sports seem to have stiffen up in the last couple of weeks...They used to be smooth and nice, IE I have them at 1.5 turns from soft in the rear and 1 turn of soft in the fronts...I dont see any oil on them so I dont believe they are blown but....what teh hell
Bigpulve, did it get cold? Did you air up your tires?
found this on the net, pretty interesting. very detailed too. talks and compares all the different suspension setup out there.

after reading some of the stuff in his article, makes my ksport look more like crap than it already is.
wonder if ksport would even offer its consumers the dyno plots for the shocks if requested...

Remember this list:
* Bilstein
* Penske
* Koni
* Ohlins
* Sachs
* Dynamic Suspension
Not on this list? Almost certainly crap.

Hey Guys one quick question about k-sports for those who have them. I ve tried to read through all 52 pages of this thread but just a yes or no answer....
Can the k-sports adjust up to close to stock ride height? thanks
Can the k-sports adjust up to close to stock ride height? thanks
Why are you asking?
Well I have decided on getting coil overs, I do autocrosses and really would apreciate the ride height adjustibility. Im torn between Tien basics and K-sports, I tiens are good and smooth but I love anything that has any sort of adjustability to screw around with to get it exactly how I want.
But During the winter I would like to raise the car up a little. I spent this last winter on sprints and it was horrible. long story short. I destroyed my front bumper and really damaged the a/c condenser infront of the rad (from snow mounds in the road etc..)

personally, if i could choose, like i said, i would go w/ koni/ground control.
can't go wrong w/ konis
I agree with this. After 2 years with Ksports, they will end up costing more in replacement struts, alignments, etc than the Koni/GC combo would. And Koni > *...
i've only had to pay outa pocket for 1 strut, and i have lifetime alignment on my car at firestone, so i havnt had to pay for an alignment in ages... hence why its so easy for me to just sway out my suspension for winter and ect....
also i am the FIRST member on the org to have ever put ksports on my car... and have only had 2 problems with them one was under warranty, second i payed for a strut, but they sent me 2 struts by accident... so in the end i barely paid for anything extra since i got the coilovers 2 years ago... and i still love them.... for some reason a lot of people have problem with noises, but after tightening things down, i have NEVER had a noise problem.... also they even sent me a new spring isolators and other things to cut down even more noise problems and all... the new spring isolators are metal....
so yeah... in the end i like my ksports.. and am definitely happy with my purchase from over 2 years ago
i am in the same boat as Mr. Duck. I really do like the ksports for the most part. and I havent had to pay them anything YET for replacement (i got the extra free strut thing too). But if they begin to blow out in another couple months or so, one by one, I'm going to quickly NOT like them.
I really have no other problems with them...and I'd upgrade if it didnt mean spending buttloads of money on something that hasnt really proved to be necessarily better.

yeah but even koni's are getting some interesting reviews as of late...

see im with mr duck, i just sold my maxima again...sad sad day..but it stayed in family, but i had ksports on my maxima, and i put 35K in about 7-8months on those things, and i have had barely anyproblems, then again i am in arizona and las vegas, were our taxes really do pay for our roads.
but still i think driving style has a lot to do with anything lasting longer...etc..
I had to replace the pillow ball joint in the front, which they did send for free. and i have yet to blow any struts..off them.

Yeah AZ roads are nice compared to the stuff in other states. I need to get new struts and then i will see how I like them, right now Im riding on blown stuff...
yeah i have drive alot...i normally get a car and turn it in a couple years...cause of the miles i put on them...
just sold my maxima
and got a jeep cherokee, but my max i sold to my older brother so its still in the family and in good care..

but, everytime i go over a bump, my driver side (the one w/o right now) makes a clicking noise. could be b/c of the less support, i dunno. i'm just gonna start zip tying them from now on so they won't come loose.
Its doin ok, My 00vi seemed to give me a lot of issues. If you do it, please use the A33 lower manifold, rails and injectors. It will give you less headaches and in the end, its much more OEM-ish. My A32 Lower kept stripping the threads I made with a tap.
In regards to the new 'noise reducing strut bearings':
Has anyone had noises before, but not after the install? As in, did you have noises, but the new equipment fixed it?
On another note, I wonder if there is a way to really tighten these things down to where it would take insane amounts of torque to loosen them...like 200 ft-lbs...haha. It would keep them from making noise, I think.
