One other quick issue...The 30mm calipers with the pads installed are wide enough to fit the rotor comfy enough to ease my mind a touch. But, the diameter of the rotor seems a lil too big because it is very close to the caliper's inner body (not touching). It almost looks too close. They are, in fact, Ford Motorsport rotors for a '98 Mustang Cobra application which is what everyone normally uses for the "Z32/Cobra BBK", no? I will have pics by Monday.

As long as it doesn't touch, it won't matter. The caliper is not gonna be moving around/

SUCCESS!!! But its the middle of the day and I have nowhere to properly brake in the pads.
Highway is busy this time of day and all the local plazas are full of people and cars. Maybe I'll just baby them on my way to work and tonight I'll give em a beatin. Thanks to all, especially Jeff, Kevin & Matt.

Yup. Try to bed them in somewhere safe! You'll be amazed at the stopping power!

FYI, I have plenty of brackets/rings in stock!

I bedded them in somewhat on the highway right now on my way to the carwash. I did a few 70-20mph stops. The pads are dragging upon turns. Could that be from the lack of shims? - or do I just need to wait until the pads wear down a bit?

Drag? Odd. Mine never did that. Is it like slow the car down drag? Or noise? If it's noise then drive them around and see what happens.

Its more like slow turns make the drag more apparent. It doesn't happen so much upon higher speeds. Almost seems like the wind make the pads "shudder" when I'm turning. I'm guessing the wind makes the pads bounce off the rotors during turns?

Well, Due to an unfortunate death in the family, I had a wake and funeral to attend to last night and today. I didn't have a chance to properly bed in the new brakes as I was doing rather normal driving because I had family in the car and whatnot. It isn't too late to bed them in now, or is it? I want optimal performance from this upgrade. BTW, the pads no longer wobble or excessively drag. They sound normal - due to possible heating up during braking and they are now sticking to the pistons more so?

wow man your thread makes me scared....... i am attempting this project this wednesday but im second doubtin doing it by myself. while we are on topic, i had a few general questions.

1) do i need to purchase brake shims?
2) do i need NEW bolts to bolt the relocation braket or i can use the maxima ones?
3) how can we tell which one is the passenger or driver side caliper? (as long as the bleeder screw faces up, ur safe?)
4) what is the bleeding precedure? RP RD FP FD ??

other than that i am looking forward to this project. what are some of the "look out for" things you can tell me in advance. i know we have to cut off the dust shield and shave the control arm but anything else??

sorry im asking too many questions but i dont want to end up with a car sitting on the jacks for 4 days lol !

I didnt use any shims and I don't have any issues related to that. Stock maxima bolts work fine for the brackets, but try to have a supply of 1/2" washers on hand to center the caliper onto the rotor for the outer part of the bracket. Bleeder screws up and you're good to go. RP RD FP FD is how I did it and I had no problems. I would recommend having at least 2 qts. of brake fluid on tap. I didn't shave anything on the control arms - no problems there. Did your calipers include the bolts that connect to the brackets?

no they didnt include any bolts. so you have the cobra rotors and you didnt need to cut anything? interesting, some people say you will need to cut the contro a bit otherwise it puts a groove inside the rotor.

Nope, I mounted everything as directed and there were no rubbing issues. My lower control arms don't touch the rotors whatsoever. I just took a grinder to the dust shield and cut off the outer lip, installed the brackets, slapped on the rings and rotors, bolted on the calipers and I was good to go. Naturally there were minor adjustments to be made during the installation, but nothing major. I had to grind down the back of the rings to make them sit flush with the rotor's rear and they sat quite nicely against the hub. Another small issue I had was centering the caliper onto the rotor. I used a few washers in this order:
Caliper bolt-1/2" flat washer-1/2" lock washer-bracket-1/2" flat washer-caliper.
With this combo, my calipers are dead centered on the rotor.

Hope your project goes smooth. Just be careful when you tighten the brake lines to the caliper body. I had to have both front calipers Helicoiled cuz they were either stripped or slightly leaking due to an overturn on the screw. What kind of pads are you going to use by the way?

Nice!! Post pics when ya finish please. I'll have my pics up in a few days. My red calipers match the red body color nicely. I only have shots of post-install (no during).

Thanks.....I just wish that I had painted the inner rotors surface with some high temp black paint. I'm leaving them that way for now, or at least until I can afford a nice 2 pc. rotor setup.
