IIRC the 6 speed can be done, but it has something to do with useing a 4th gen case.

6speed not worth the troubles. 5speed is better.

Less drivetrain loss, rod driven, and seems more reliable than 6sp. Not to mention the stock flywheel weights 18 pounds versus 31.

You can get the VI to work, just rig up a rpm switch. Why not just drop in a VQ35DE with the 5spd.

Yeah just drop a 3.5 with a 5-speed. Everyone and their grandmother is doing it (including me).

The 01 5-speed LSD tranny is the best maxima transmission ever. Like our 4th gen 5-speed, but a few of the gears are reinforced, and it has a limited slip differencial. The split is better than the I30/Canadian maxima LSD, too. If I ever get my hands on one it's a keeper. Until then I'll fight with the steering.

what issues would be involved with using a 00 engine in a 98, what wiring would I have to mess with? would everything still work?

If you use the 3.0 timing chain, gears and timing cover, yes it would. Judging by the 350z SC... with headers and a good exhaust system, it would put down about 400whp at base boost (7 psi I think). Now that's just ridiculous.

That would be a great combo. Manual LSD tranny, VQ35, + S/C, in a 4th Gen...

Hello 12 second car (with some weight reduction).

It will happen soon...I though babyblu was going to be the first, but it looks like StephenMax will be someday soon.

Minus the LSD though, however at the track on slicks it doesn't make as much of a difference, correct?

Don't do the 3.5 engine. If you go to the 350z forum their engines are blowing after 6lbs of boost. My suggestion would be to do the VQ33. Its a VQ30 with the bottom of the VQ35. I'm not sure what nissan did but they messed up somewhere with the VQ35 engine. In the 800hp G35 that Top Secrect built they used the internals of the VQ30 on the VK45 V8.

First, VQ35s are blowing because of MANY reasons such as torquey TT kits that put out torque VQ30s never see, working quirks out of returnless fuel setup, weak rod bolts, crank wire signal integrity, etc.. It is NOT because the VQ35 is weaker then the VQ30, that is just dumb.

Second, the VQ35 crank and rods will not fit in a VQ30.

Third, the VK45 was a modular extension of the VQ30, ie it's basically a VQ30 with two more cylinders, so that's why they'd chose the internals. Plus, knowing TopSecret, they wanted the shorter stroke for high top speeds.

I think 400fwhp in a 4th gen 5-speed with slicks and no suspension travel is possible 11-second territory. N/A 3.5s in lightweight 4th gens pushing more or less 250fwhp will most likely begin dipping in the 12s soon.
