Factory Fitted Mevi - MEVI Experts please.

My cefiro has factory fitted MEVI...

Now I know no one in the US probably does have factory fitted MEVI... but I hoping some one who has retrofitted MEVI will know.

I believe MEVI kicks in for me at 5200, I want to do 2 things...
1. Hook up a light that will tell me when MEVI activates (need to know where to hook the LED too)

2. Disconnect ECU line and use a RPM switch instead like this one

Can anyone help me with info for the above

I would say try to hook up a light to your electronic solenoid if you can find it.

I've got an LED to let me know that the VSS is getting a voltage signal. All you need to do is tap into the voltage source going to the VSS. It doesn't really tell me that the butterflies are actually opening, but it does tell me that the Harlan switch is working. So far it has never failed (the Harlan rpm switch, that is).

Ah whats VSS?

I was thinking if my setup is similar to the below... not sure if the below was a workaround or a copy of the factory install...

then I think I just replace the ECU line to the Control Solenoid with a line to an RPM switch for the 4700rpm activation.

And then do I run a LED off the + side where it says 'Switched Port'. My thinking is if the solenoid is activated then MEVI must be in operation.

The Harlan switch provides a path to ground when the set rpm is reached.

If you connect the LED in parallel with the VSS (Vacuum Solenoid Switch, or control solenoid) then when the Harlan switch opens a path to ground the LED will come on at the same time the VSS is activated.

y not keep everything the way it is and buy a vafc and control it with that. if ur ecu does it stock then i think u should keep letting the ecu do it and not a switch that might fail.

Well stock MEVI kicks in at 5200, from what I've read its effective from 4700, so thats when I would like it to start. I've read that a vafc with vtec control could be used to activate MEVI, but it would be cheaper to just get the RPM switch..

Either way whether a vafc or a rpm switch I still need to know where to wire it to (which was original question), I think I just trace the wires back from the control solenoid and figure out which one is the ecu line, and then cut that and wire too rpm switch, correct?

You don't want your MEVI activating any earlier than 5200. 5400 was optimal for me.

Oh might have to do my reading again.. How did you work out what was optimal did you use Air/fuel ration meter?

I can't currently tell when my MEVI kicks in until I can mange to wire a LED which lights on MEVI activation

AF does not have anything to do with it. I used my dyno graphs and countless track runs. Trust me you don't want a 4700 activation point.

Yeah like mike said you definately don't want it opening at 4700. I've probably got 2-3 times as many track runs with MEVI as anyone else on this board, and I've experimented with different opening points as well as used dyno graphs to figure out the optimal opening point. If it's set at 5200 from the factory I wouldn't touch it.

What's your stock revlimit RPM?

4700rpm is for 2000-2001 DEK manifolds not MEVIs.

My stock RPM is also 6500 I believe

Unfortunately I don't know at what RPM the MEVI activiates from the factory as I need to hook up an indicator light to know when its on.

BUT want I want to know now is, How to change the KS with MEVI installed? I mean I can't even see the KS

The MEVI doesn't change the difficulty level of changing the ks at all it's the same. .. at least on USA cars it is.

I have had both and can honestly there is no differenst as I've changed them in both configurations, if you can get the shot with the MEVI from the same angle you will see what I mean... In fact it seemd easier with the MEVI

Are you asking us if there is a way to change it or are you telling us there is no way to change it because something is in the way on your car that USDM cars don't have? If it's the latter, then I don't know if there is much help we can offer you other than removing the things in the way, perhaps including the manifold. That harness you have with the arrow pointing to it is definately not the KS harness if thats what you're asking. I don't know what that is. On US cars the KS is very easy to see (getting your hand or a wrench on it can be more difficult, but you can see it plain as day.)

Doh! just had a good look while replacing my temp sensor, and I can see the knock sensor, phew, your right it is plain as day once you look in the right spot.

Hopefully Nmemax is right and its easier with mevi

Thanks All
